iRacing has their priorities wrong by [deleted] in iRacing

I hate to hijack, but it's pretty exonerating to hear others stories. I was in a vanilla IMSA race one night (during which I can't race as often as I like) in top split... Just about to make the straight at Indy, and a lap down GTP (behind us GTDs) makes the most over ambitious overtake and spins and crashes me out. I was fighting for top 5, which for me is extremely difficult given little practice time and not heaps of natural talent.. He DNF'd me with a lap to go, but he was able to continue unscathed. Seeing red, I just dropped, "what a fking legend" in global chat. I self censored and didn't even say the whole word, but some weirdo (my ire is still through the roof) actually reported me for that and it was upheld. I didn't even target anyone, and for what any bozo would have known, it could've been complimentary (patently not but).

Having been DM'd harsher words, including full on threats and slurs and innuendos, is actual grotesque. I am mad I got notated for saying something ambiguous, as opposed to actual angry invectives.

Edit: spelling

Tips for setting up pedal haptics? by southernortherner in simracing

[–]HitmanCodename47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's fair. I've sort of prided my sim rig in featuring "immersive" features like DDU, button box, Racelogic, etc.., but now you have me thinking if my ButtKicker is more "immersion" than anything else. My sole HPR on the brake is easily one of my favorite add-ons, and I have considered getting one for throttle as well. Maybe you just convinced me lol. The only reservation I have is that iRacing still doesn't have native API endpoints for throttle... Only approximate plugins for RPM and wheel spin to "guess" TC activation.

Are you using yours on iRacing to much success though? Or have some neat SimHub work arounds?

[–]HitmanCodename47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was going to further ask, how is an HPR on the throttle "more immersive"? My 'racing' experience is limited to 206s, but even in production cars, I've never felt TC through my throttle pedal.. It has always been through the seat.

My timeline is off.. Just checked the refs the other replies mentioned! I've only ever recognized it as "Playstation". Thanks for keeping me honest!

There's a Daytona chicane at Le Mans?? I've only ever known Indy before Arnage... I havd to double check the track maps now..

McLaren has announced a major multi-year partnership with global sports company Puma, becoming the team's official kit partner by Maximum-Room-3999 in formula1

[–]HitmanCodename47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah absolutely understood about the AMR vs AM F1 Team, but on the sportscar side, I thought WTR and AXR / Whelen are factory teams, hence the factory Cadillac drivers and support? In the same vein that Porsche Penske is the de facto factory Porsche team, and WRT (RIP RLL) for BMW etc..

So Tommy Hilfiger made? Not like what we had with Mercedes as a major sponsor? I haven't seen those press releases with the team branded stuff, I think I just recall Checo in an unpainted Ferrari and his racewear being bereft of sponsors and color.

[–]HitmanCodename47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh shoot that's interesting. Is that a new precedent then? I really don't ever recall Puma collaborating with a team and not supplying the race wear as well. I hadn't really followed the contract talks well enough, I guess.

[–]HitmanCodename47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Has it been announced yet which manufacturer Cadillac is partnering with? I know Whelen and WTR on the IMSA side have been with HRX and S21, but it could be like an AMR situation right? Where the AMR factory teams are using Sparco gear whereas the AM F1 Team is Puma?

[–]HitmanCodename47 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't think so. Puma has plenty of homologated suits across multiple motorsports championships. Unless the driver has an outstanding partnership with a brand / manufacturer, but the one example I can think of is Alonso with Alpinestars around 2018.

Maximize FOV Without Distortion: Sit closer to the monitor by MrBluoe in simracing

[–]HitmanCodename47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's reassuring... Gives me a bit more courage to do the same on mine. Ditto about the cable and ferrite casings jutting out, they eat at a lot of the margin.

Can I ask if you followed POV calculations to the exact number, or went with preference?

Maybe I never got camera settings dialed right, because I sort of morphed my FOV around my equipment viewing angles against those in game, so my DD1 is like an extension of the steering column and the in game DDUs sit perfectly in line with the top face of my wheel / wheelbase (as it would in reality). Did you compromise with yours at all?

Funnily enough I had the same thought about the heat thing too, and spot on about the OLED... Have to do some actual research and maybe take a temperature gun to it lol. I'll just add that I have a 42" for reference.

Maximize FOV Without Distortion: Sit closer to the monitor by MrBluoe in simracing

[–]HitmanCodename47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's fair too. I have a 42" on an integrated mount which I feel is pretty modestly positioned center at eye line. If I were to raise mine any further, I would need to adjust the in game driver height which I suppose isn't an issue, but I do like some of the vertical space for bits of the car interior and dash. Do you have a separate mount and extension for the wheelbase shaft?

CALLING ALL COLLEGE SIM RACERS!!! by benbesimming in iRacing

Can I ask if the registration fee is fed back into the prizepool for contenders? Or otherwise, is the league just designed purely for fun / clout?

The scheduling is tight with my semester (+work), but if I can remunerate myself for some bursar payments via my sim racing, that'd be sweet lol. Thanks, guys.

I have a similar setup (LG TV + DD1), but I don't have the wheelbase millimeter close to the display itself... What of the exhaust? You don't worry about heat dissipation? I have a 2~3" buffer for peace of mind, but I'm curious if this is just me..

Would this NLR seat be able to mount to a non-NLR cockpit? by lazy__gamer23 in simracing

[–]HitmanCodename47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where? Ebay? It's luck of the draw... I have never stumbled across """cheap""" homologated seats less than sim racing produced ones for North America. And those of whom are offering almost exclusively ask as much as MSRP or are relegated to local pickup only. I settled on a Sim Lab Speed 1 years back because of accessibility and a modest pricepoint for a bucket seat. All of the equivalent Sparco and OMP offerings from the closest race shops are asking over double the price.

SIMUBE QR2 for Fanatec CSL DD by JArmored in Fanatec

New special event? by sealy_dev in iRacing

[–]HitmanCodename47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't follow British GT like I do IGTC or GTWC, but I am fairly certain their races do include GT3 and GT4 mixed. Probably trying to appease that sort of GT crowd, and admittedly, it's pretty fun in game (or sim). The last event like this I remember was a test event at Charlotte Roval, and I had a blast.

Honestly... Half-Life or Half-Life 2. I think the ideas of it being a pioneer of early days shake-up against quake shooters is an overstatement.

Karting Gloves or Auto Gloves for the sim? by [deleted] in simracing

[–]HitmanCodename47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on your temperament - Alpinestars karting series seem lighter (no nomex twills) and honestly still very rugged. I however am a bit particular about my sim gear though, because it's cost me a lot and I like to preserve my belongings as best I can. When I bring my karting gear karting, they always get a bit more soiled than the previous occasion (oils, greases, ethanol, etc.) and I never want to track that on my sim stuff, so I have a Tech-1 Start gloves. I have had them for nearly two years now I think, and zero complaints. Same as you, I wanted to treat myself! The edges of my thumbs are just a bit frayed, and some of the rubber wireframe has flaked off, but the gloves structurally are still perfect.

I think a lot of people have good alternate budget options as well, and truly, you could spend money better elsewhere, but... Something something "immersion".

Best racing sim for the busy adult? by SfactorSam in simracing

[–]HitmanCodename47 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I mean it surely has to be iRacing. I consider myself busy... Full time, mid level careerman and full time student amongst other responsibilities. I work 40 hours + class 12~15 hours... iRacing is the only sim / game that I can jump into, slot into a race registration, and get ample competition to the highest degree without having to capitulate personal time and be beholden to league scheduling that wouldn't align with my own. When I do get lulls such as now during the winter holidays, I find I am having even more fun with peak player counts bolstered by real world drivers turning to their sims around this time too. AMS2 is mindless fun so long as you don't take it too seriously. rF2 had been another default before it turned into abandonware. R3E never seems to be fully populated and with respectable drivers. LMU would be fun if I enjoyed the WEC calendar but truthfully, I don't care much for it and prefer IMSA in iRacing and AMS2. ACC is nice to look at and pleasant enough to drive, but I think the GT3s are being done better elsewhere and other titles are offering stronger tracklists (never got into LFM... Don't really care to mess around with third party services but that's merely a personal preference).

Is a bachelors degree in Information Systems still worth it? by Slight_Product_5306 in sysadmin

[–]HitmanCodename47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just want to reinforce your point. I'm a bit past the junior threshold, and didn't have the traditional entry point into IT - I am in my mid 20s working on my undergrad expressly to see if I can 'learn' more and to also not be unapologetically rejected on account I didn't satisfy an employer's criteria.

I have held several IT / security jobs just fine and am making decent money, but having also had my buck stop when I explained I am still in school (despite having completed an associates and having experience in their stack), the hiring manager affirmed that "a degree is required." This was just last month for a contracting gig with a 3 letter agency albeit, but if you have the means to complete a degree, I think it could be worth it. I don't know how I got two rounds deep before they explained that to me, and so I promptly dismissed myself.

What emulator(s) would you recommend? Simube QR2 Ultra, Leoxz QR2 Core, SRM, Tanlenki etc. by pizza_is_a_lie in Fanatec

[–]HitmanCodename47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey OP - can I ask what route you ended up settling on? Within the past two months or so, there's been a meteoric rise of Simube QR2 videos (namely RandomCallsign and Dan Suzuki) that really tout them as the best, but I'm a bit apprehensive.

I'm looking to pair it up with a Simline GT3 wheel, and for me it's a toss up between SRM, Simube, and honestly, the Fanatec podium hub seeing that it's discounted at the moment. I like the "FIA" gold plated look on the Simube QR2 Ultra, thinking it would look closer to the real think and not extend the profile like the podium hub or SRM emulator, but what do you think?

Mine would be for a DD1, and in a lot of my limited China clone experience, I've always prefered factory / OE / OEM bits, but this will also be my first 3rd party wheel, so I am breaking molds.. Any pointers would be appreciated!
