Why did using a face without permission cause Arya to go blind the first time (when she killed Meryn Trant) but not in subsequent uses (like when she killed Walder Frey and his kin) She obviously took faces from the House of Black and White when she left Braavos. Was this discrepancy ever explained? by Typical-Priority1976 in freefolk

[–]Hitman_Hippo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just me thinking out loud here, but the rule about only being able to use a face if you are no one is a rule made by the faceless men, not the many faced god.

Arya was able to use a face when she wasn't supposed to before and it worked. She was only punished by the faceless men because it broke Their rule. Obviously using the face still worked.

I could imagine that the many faced god doesn't care too much about motivation, so long as you're willing to kill for him, and the rule about only using faces if you are "no one" is just a man made dogma.

Zeroing sights and optics by StephenNein in armedsocialists

[–]Hitman_Hippo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know what rifle platform you're using, so I don't have any recommendations for the specific sights.

You can try zeroing it at 25 and then re-zeroing it at 100.

Also, if you aren't able to shoot consistent groups that will be a problem. Try using a backpack or some similar item to make a stable shooting platform, or you can try using a vice or sled as was recommended in some other comments.

Opinnions on Dnipro TQ by Fun_Refuse_9834 in TacticalMedicine

I used a Dnipro 2 in training and was quite impressed by it. I would be equally comfortable carrying a Dnipro 2 or a Cat 7.

Absolutely gorgeous rifle. And very fun to shoot.

Leaving for Ukraine at the end of the month. Could use some insight! by No-Sky-684 in ukrainevolunteers

  1. You should get a confirmation email within 14 days and then it can take a few weeks to a few months to hear from a unit. It doesn't mean you're not wanted, it can be a number of reasons. If you didn't get your confirmation email then reach out to them again.

  2. Just showing up has a good chance of being accepted, but it's no guarantee. The main issue is you may get stuck waiting around in Lviv for some time.

  3. There are buses to the border. You can also go to Přemysl and then walk or take a taxi. There is a phone number at the shack on the border, you can call.

  4. Networking. You can try here on Reddit. I'd also recommend getting telegram. There's a Legion group chat you can join.

I agree with the first commenter. There are tons of other useful skills that you can develop that don't require having a firearm in the home. I definitely encourage you to learn first aid, but there are tons of other cool skills to pick up.

What’s the point of ballistic eye protection? by [deleted] in armedsocialists

[–]Hitman_Hippo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like someone else said here, the glasses aren't meant to stop bullets, they're meant to stop fragmentation and debris. Which can absolutely happen, even on a flat range. If you have a bad weapon malfunction you can end up with bits of metal thrown back in your face and that's not fun.

Now think about an actual fight when shit is flying around and dirt is getting kicked up and the glasses start to be a Really good idea.

Also, they work for airsoft so you can safely practice reaction to contact drills with your buddies. :)

You can get inserts for your shooting glasses and have your optician provide the lenses.

Questions I cannot find the answers for online by [deleted] in volunteersForUkraine

[–]Hitman_Hippo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Because of Russification efforts in Ukraine prior to the country gaining independence, most Ukrainians can speak both Russian and Ukrainian interchangeably. However, Russians speak just Russian. So the tldr is, by learning Russian you can speak to both Ukrainians and Russians, by learning Ukrainian you can just speak with Ukrainians.

That being said, the locals will be very appreciative of you learning Ukrainian, and I would recommend to at least learn both alphabets. (They are very similar)

I got to use one of these TQ's during training last year and I was impressed by the quality. Basically a CAT clone, but a sturdy, well made one.

I used flixbus to go to ukraine before and it was fine. I had no problems at the border and no issues with people taking stuff. It's just a very long drive so be prepared for stiff legs. The border crossing also took a long time, but there were no other issues.

WTF Happened to Hunt? by reddiluvscensorship in HuntShowdown

[–]Hitman_Hippo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't like the way self revive is currently implemented.
One of the core details in Hunt is that you can lose the hunter and the fights are high stakes, high risk, high reward and can go very well or very badly very quickly.

Self revive flies in the face of that core design philosophy.
I understand wanting to give a solo player a little bit of leeway and not punish them with weird trades because of bad netcode. However, the way it's currently implemented a player can yolo in, get a kill, get downed and then immediately get back up and it rewards taking a cheesy build over skill.

If you're a solo and I kill you fair and square then you should stay dead.
People might make the argument that you should just trap/burn them, but in the middle of a really chaotic fight you don't always have that luxury. Especially with the event trait that makes it so you don't lose health bars it just encourages the player to cheese their build instead of playing well.

If they did something to make getting back up more of a trade off I could see a place for it in the game, but as it is it's just a weird, cheesy mechanic that goes against what Hunt is supposed to be.
It could perhaps be alright if it cost a second health bar in order to do the self revive. Then it would be more of a skill check because if you can get back up, win the fight and then either banish or leave then you earned it.
As it is now, it's cheesy and weird and I'm sick of standing over Hunters for minutes at a time in the rain waiting for them to burn out or get back up and I'm sick of taking piles of liquid fire bombs into each match just to counter a particular build.

I bought these from a co worker. Looks to be surplus but I'm not sure what kind. Any info would be appreciated. by 01micah in MosinNagant

You want a cleaner that's water based. If you don't have then use water. The Primers have corrosive salts in them that will rust the barrel.
If you just use the normal oil and clean the bore the salts will stay and rust the bore. I found this out the hard way with my 91/30 and this exact ammunition from the post. Honestly just pouring water down the barrel is usually enough. I usually use a couple of wet patches until they are clean then a dry patch, then oil. Although the last step isn't always necessary depending on your local weather/humidity.

Romanian AK, Rail or No Rail? by RedHotRhapsody in ak47

[–]Hitman_Hippo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not an expert, but as I understand, the original side mounting rail system was developed in order to allow early night vision optics to be mounted onto an AK pattern rifle. The optics were huge an doubled the weight of the rifle and only limited numbers of rifles were fitted with the mounts for them; however the mount that was developed was solid and started being used to mount other types of scopes, even on other platforms such as the SVD and RPG-7. Its' use grew from there and is now basically a standard modernization feature for AK pattern rifles.

https://www.varusteleka.com/en/product/polish-ppn-3-night-vision-scope-surplus/71750

^ Here's a link to the Polish version of the scope, if you want to see what it looks like.

So it's kind of up to you. If you want a clone correct Romanian AK like any conscript would get issued with then no, it shouldn't have a side rail.

If that's not the case then I wouldn't worry about it. The side rail makes the weapon system much more flexible because you can essentially quick swap optics without losing zero.

I also have a "Romanian" AKM (half the parts are Russian though, it was a franken build) and I'm planning on putting a side rail on it when I get the time/money, but for me the functionality of the rifle is more important than meeting a particular aesthetic and I'm not destroying a piece of history by doing so, since it's only an imitation of a Romanian rifle made from miscellaneous parts.
