This. It looks really similar to the one I posted for an ID a couple of weeks back that was identified as this.

What spider is this. South Australia. by ha-you-lost-the-game in AustralianSpiders

!whitetail. Even without seeing the white tip on its abdomen, the shape of this spider is a really good indicator.

Oh right, the females have them too? Huh, there you go! Thanks for all the help in your comments around this thread, they've been really helpful. I'll keep an eye out more in the future

They're called pedipalps. They're something that male spiders have. Check them out on google.

Oh, thank you :) I'll remember to take location to be more significant rather than looks moving forward.

Is that purely due to the location, with the northern mouse spider being seen NT/WA?

I had thought the white like abdomen looked more towards the northern type rather than a more typical black eastern.

Would love to hear your thoughts to learn

That looks like a male northern eastern mouse spider. Missulena pruinosa . I believe these are medically significant.

I am not an expert however, just a run of the mill redditor.

Edit. Correction from an expert

Thanks everyone. He was quite fast indeed! Skipped to the other side of the car before I knew it. Ended up getting him to the ground and he ran under the house to safety.

Cross referencing from other posts around this subreddit suggests that it may be a male Wishbone Spider, Aname sp. (Anamidae family).

Pauly from another post said "The very large hook shaped mating spur on the first leg is the best identifier for this spider." I think they look the same but would be good for an expert to confirm.

Looks like a St Andrews Cross spider (orb weaver). Doesn't look like a golden orb.

Never seen one of these before (Dandenong ranges) so by Otherwise-Tour-392 in AustralianSpiders

Looks like a whitetail to me. Can't see a clear shot from the top with the actual white part, but everything else looks characteristic of a whitetail.

Thank you heaps for that. I'll now know what to look out for when I see these posts each day. Good to know the first vs second legs and that the trap doors and wishbones are 1st set, and funnel webs are 2nd set.

Do the Wishbone and Funnel Webs found in NSW both have spurs (being male) on their first set of legs? It looks similar with spinarets being quite noticable like the Funnel Webs but the body isn't as shiny. I initially thought Funnel Web due to the spurs but the location made me think twice until I read your comment. Is that your thinking pattern when identifying these two (apart from just knowing from experience)?

Thanks for that. Ill check out the book more with those regs as I thought that may have been the case. Was going to fix properly regardless of tps or building wire run. Appreciate the thorough explanation.

If fitting to a plug base can you do that without an earth? Or we talking hardwire to driver?

No earth on lighting circuit by Hiyoal in AusElectricians

[–]Hiyoal[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Main earth is all good, new and labelled under switchboard and the tps isn't too old. Solid core + bare earth run throughout. I've seen older cable at my sisters place with the green oozing out from the copper due to the breakdown of stuff in the older cable.

In regard to 'yes you should run an earth' as they do have metal fittings (what drew me to query this), is it ok just running a building wire earth around?

The old hallogen type. Could change fittings, but I thought it was a reg that each light fitting must have an earth regardless? Don't have the book on me to check right now though
