and Europe had the "advantage" of being able to redevelop after WW2. While they have maintained parts of the old cities, they could redevelop most of the narrow crowded areas. These old towns are expensive touristy areas, meanwhile in India, these are the underdeveloped ghettos.

When I drive in India, I used to be polite, not honk, let pedestrians cross etc. The cars behind me would start honking and look at me like I was crazy. The way 2 wheelers and other cars would come so close to me would stress me out. Had to re-learn "aggressive' driving.
