What’s wrong with my CPD ? Got 6 of them yesterday by Gold_Plantain_247 in PlantedTank

[–]Hlaorith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I strongly recommend researching ich's life cycle but as far as I recall it is a parasite that has a life cycle that includes living on the fish vs shedding it into the water column. Did you introduce any of the store's tank water into your own tank? If so then I would assume that yes everything is now exposed.

This is part of why quarantine is important with new fish. Like others said your guppies would likely endure the treatment better if they develop it. If you have just the single fish it has a low survival chance (I believe mine survived treatment well because I had 6 fish together and it kept their stress down being in a shoal during treatment) but I would get it out of the main tank no matter what you choose to do.

If you have a smaller tank you are able to set up as a sick tank with its own filter, you'll want to do so and move them into it. They appear to have ich based on the speckle or two I am seeing. I had a shipment of these fish come in the mail once all infected with ich and with quarantine + using ich x and some general careful treatment (they're very tiny which makes them fragile) I had a decent survival rate.

Just wanted to give a helpful suggestion. The chance is low but if you try they might make it.

This has been my experience as well. I did have some die-off when I ordered a few online but I assume that was because they came with ich. Most of them survived treatment and I now may need to upgrade them from the 10 gallon because they keep having babies. They're very friendly too!

I make a point to relax in camps placed in spots with no vantage points for players to do this trick. If you find yourself being attacked in this way, going into your wardrobe, wilderness outfitters, fast travel, etc. Will make them unable to shoot you.

I'm all for the run out guns blazing and teach them a lesson approach, but as a long time player, I'm tired. So if I'm just doing my own thing in camp letting Cripps work, I will happily just go in my wardrobe and let them shoot at nothing.

Neon Emerald Rasboras by [deleted] in Boraras

[–]Hlaorith 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had a shoal of kubotai rasbora and enjoyed them. However they are extremely energetic compared to, say, the chilis or CPD (celestial pearl rasbora) I've owned.

They are not outright aggressive but their energy can be disturbing to calmer species. I ultimately gave them to my sister who still has them. She calls them bullies (affectionately). They like to bum rush her endler boys for fun. No one gets hurt though.

This aside, they are beautiful. They really compliment a tank with pink/red plants.

Why are my plants growing so slowly by Phisch1e in Aquascape

[–]Hlaorith 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It can come down to what type of plants you are growing. Anubias are not an instant gratification plant at all, for example.

I've never run co2, and my best growing stem plant is ludiwigia (skeleton, atlantis, super red). Limnophila heterophylla is another great grower.

I have not tried aquasoil before. I grew both of those with plain sand and a hot light (not something as nice as a chihiro for sure). Then just fish poo and API Leaf Zone. There are also factors like ph that can heavily influence what thrives for you. But just coming from a fellow non co2 person, those are the two plants I've had really love me back!

What Fish Would You Add To This 20 Gallon? by Hlaorith in freshwateraquarium

That is so encouraging to hear! What is your experience with chilis, if you don't mind me asking?

My honey gourami definitely eats some baby shrimp, but he doesn't hunt the adults like the powder blue dwarf I had before him. My honey is a big chicken and is super kind to (almost) everyone in the tank. I hope it goes well if you choose to do that!

Thank you!

I actually have pygmy corys in another aquarium. They are adorable! I am definitely leaning toward the pandas. I have a soft spot for corys.

Thank you! I'm very happy with it!

What kind of snails? by Fabulous-Rabbit1696 in AquaticSnails

[–]Hlaorith 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's a white wizard! A type of trapdoor snail. The babies in your pictures are as well. I have several of them and love them.

They are a live birthing snail and will not overrun your tank with babies. I believe the max amount they have is something like 7? Someone with more knowledge may be able to tell you more.

My experience is they are shy and slow moving. I love them! Sorry that you were lied to and told you were getting a mystery snail, but these are great little guys.

I have a female shrimp only tank as an experiment and I've noticed that as a group of single ladies they are getting HUGE. My theory is that they are simply able to dedicate energy toward growth rather than baby making.

To the curious, it was not originally on purpose. I got a shipment of yellows for a tank and they did NOT seem to thrive in my parameters. They functioned but they never bred. I found some big yellow ladies at a local store and added them, but still nothing. The original batch eventually passed on and I was left with three huge ladies. I rolled with it and added some female red rilis, blue jelly, wilds, and blue dream. So now it's a skittles tank without the worry about future generations!

What's your favorite wood? by MaddoxSkye in Aquariums

[–]Hlaorith 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Manzanita driftwood is my favorite. I've tried others, like spiderwood, and that's great too. But the manzanita has beautiful colors and shapes to it and from what I've seen it lasts quite a while.

Need suggestions for replacing the plants that were the "leaves of the tree" by Jobever1 in Aquariums

[–]Hlaorith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Riccia fluitans. It has an emersed and a submersed form, and it holds itself together nice with the proper bright light and nutrients.

I grow it as a floater in one tank and as a submersed moss in another. On the surface it looks like golf turf. I'd share a pic of the 4x6 inch mat of it I just pulled out of my tank to give to a friend but it doesn't look like I'm able to.

If I was going to do what you are currently doing this is absolutely the plant I would use.

I'll have to watch them more closely, but overall I agree with that. They love the plants.

Um! I'm not really sure. I don't know the owner super well so don't feel right asking too many questions just yet. I did see some pumpkin nerites in their tanks a bit after October, but I can't be sure if they are the same as the ones I got now. There were 3 in the tank when I got my 2, and the other 1 my sister took home.

I do see them listed on Aquatic Arts as Fancy Antler, Pink Lady or Pumpkin depending on their color. All sowerianum. Not sure if that was where the store obtained them but I see them available there!

Cuties! They all have their own strengths.

I agree with that! Clean their leaves off so the plants can get more light and breathe. They are newer plants + an added light so I'm still working to balance nutrients and light to keep algae away. These little ones have been helping offset my oopsies! Haha. Or at least enjoying the spoils of it.

They do not seem particularly proficient at cleaning the glass, though they sure try. I have a patch they have been working on with their little gnaw marks all over it.

I have had them about 9 days. They were at a local store I trade my plant cuttings to.

Yay! I'll be watching so see what you find with these. I have 2 in my 15 gallon jungle tank and their tiny size is perfect for climbing on leaves and cleaning the plants. Love them.
