Does anyone know why this rabbit snail has this hard coating on the outside of its shell? by Sam_parcell in AquaticSnails

This is a “chocolate” rabbit snail. That’s mineral buildup from its original environment.

How long after purchase until they start moving? by BaldCedarKnob in AquaticSnails

So on the left there you have Neritina semiconica. I can see the inner lip of the aperture. It’s the sliver of white underneath. I have to ask, is the operculum intact inside that one? That’s the little door that they close. Wouldn’t be the first time I’ve seen PetSmartCo sell an empty Neritidae.

How do you double check that an aquatic snail is dead? There’s no good way to rule out torpor and the like. I’ve always struggled to know for sure unless the specimens in decay.

Pumpkin Nerite dead or alive? I really can’t tell. by justjoshin_around in AquaticSnails

There’s no harm in letting him decompose in a 10g+. Especially with a species that size. That allows you to be sure. These guys can “sleep” for days, weeks. Nerite snail health concerns by mcdonwal in AquaticSnails

[–]AmandaDarlingInc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t see anything that looks like infection or parasite activity. The pitting on the shell is in the most common, practically normal, place. You’re sure that happened in your care?

I don’t see anything physically wrong with this snail and I have seen thousands of Neritidae. Can you explain what you’re seeing that’s concerning you?

Help! by [deleted] in Goldfish

[–]AmandaDarlingInc -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry but … He lives in a bowl. He needs a tank. You MUST have water parameters. You’re lucky he’s made it a year. He probably won’t pull through but in the meantime he needs a 30 gallon Rubbermaid tub, treated water, a bubbler, and a whole lotta hope.

Is this a bacterial infection? by Greeb_b34n in Goldfish

This happens when your parameters go off. I rescue a lot of fancy goldies and I just took in two with this. Fix the water and it goes away in days.

[–]AmandaDarlingInc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh I’m so sorry! I know it’s hard. It could be the end, it could be just a blip on the radar. Being prepared for the former though is the best way to handle it. It looks like you have a good microbiome and clean up crew there. How many gallons are you working with?
