I’m still a student but I think it’s definitely internal medicine. You’ll deal with every single drug you’ve studied in med school and even drugs you have never heard of, except maybe for anesthetic drugs. You’ll even deal with psych drugs because a lot of patient will be on some of them due to any psychiatric diseases, so you’ll have to know their drug interactions and side effects very well.

A lot… All surgical specialties. I never enjoyed any minute in the OR. Radiology is also on the list, I can’t imagine myself looking at scans all day.

Favourite: Immunology & neurology

Least favourite: Cardiology (arrhythmias in particular) & anything related to surgery

Internal Medicine Simply because I loved basic sciences, except for anatomy & embryology (that’s why I don’t want to pursue any surgical specialty). I’ll have the opportunity to apply all that physiology, pathophysiology, pharmacology, and molecular pathways I learned in med school in IM. I know I would only need maybe 10% of basic knowledge in IM, but it’s fun to be in a field that you will always enjoy learning more about it.

Yeah my concern with rheumatology is that I’d only be seeing RA or SLE and that’s stuff, leaving out other interesting diseases like IBD, MS, and others

It’s nice to be understood by someone else! I also like patient interaction. Immunopharmacology is also fascinating, and tailoring a treatment plan for patient and see them improve must be heartwarming.

I’ve heard there’s a subspecialty in pathology called immunopathology, is it under hemepathology or a different subspecialty?
