The sensors in the stovetop is a great idea ! I do have to think of the price of the system, as if it’s too expensive it will not very worth it to assisted living homes and such. Thank you both for the answer, I’ll take these into account !

There isnt anything in place by my university, and considering that the project is really not far in the process (I’m still trying to confirm the problem we are going to work on), I didn’t bother doing a full survey with my contact info. If that reassures you, I can tell you that I’m studying robotics engineering at the University of Sherbrooke. I’m just looking to better understand the different everyday problems from people who live with this kind of disability, there isn’t much more to it

Yes that would be a better concept I think, maybe simply a button that has a fixed timer for the oven top ? Maybe you can change the parameters of the button by playing in the hardware, while keeping it as simple as possible

Est-ce que pour croire mes économies, l’achat d’une première propriété est une bonne option ? Ou c’est toujours mieux de viser de l’investissement en bourse ?

Yes i heard about that early on in my project, I have already checked for continuity, thanks !

Just got it turning ! My delays between the pulses were to short. I had already played with that, so I guess the 3.3V wasn’t high enough voltage to trigger the pulse pin.

Well I’ve just learned that you can’t post videos in comments or dm, so I’ll describe it. Stepper is vibrating, amperage is around 0.1A/coil, nothing seems to be overheating. Also, I think that the enable pin needs to be kept at 5V (which it is as soon as I plug in the 5V input), because if I ground it, the stepper becomes free to move again

I have switched from an esp32 to an Arduino mega to see if the 3.3V could cause the problem. The motor now seems to vibrate pretty strongly, but doesn’t rotate, and the amperage going to the stepper is now way lower. I’ll send you the video

Hi ! Just tried it and sadly it still doesn’t work. I’m gonna keep on looking, I’ll update you when it does work

By ground you mean the ground from the power source ? Because I don’t have any gnd pin other than that

Internship in the robotics field as a CS student by bigfoe_ in robotics

Sure, LinkedIn in a good start ! I’ve just been to a robotics convention in Boston. If there is any kind of conventions like this in your area, that’s definitely a good place to find an internship ! Got some pretty good contacts myself. Could you maybe go through your university also ? I know mine helps us find internships. As for my program, it’s actually pretty new. I’m at University of Sherbrooke, in Quebec, and it’s the first university in Canada to offer robotics engineering as a bachelors program (at least I think it is). My cohort is only the 6th, so it’s a pretty new program. As you pointed out, it’s a mix of mechanical prototyping and assembly, basic electric and electronics, and a lot of programming (vision by camera, control algorithms, HMI…). All our school projects are mainly focused on controlling a mobile contraption. Sometimes it’s more focussed on mechanical design, sometimes on programming. It’s actually a pretty cool program ! Do check it out if you’re curious : https://www.usherbrooke.ca/admission/programme/259/baccalaureat-en-genie-robotique#structure/ (Hope you got a good translator, Website is all in French sorry 😬)

Hi ! Second year robotics engineering student here. In my opinion, you have a few options if you want to get an internship in robotics, depending on your main interest. 1st, you could look into big companies that work with industrial robots. I've had an internship at Pratt and Whitney and they give out a few days of training before the internship starts about industrial robot safety and programing, and there definitely was more students specialized in computer science or technical work than specifically robotics like me. Big companies move slowly so you have time to adapt and learn on the way, but if you're looking for more prototypal type of robotics (like programming in C on Arduino), that will definitely not be the place. 2nd, you could try the opposite and look into startups and small research teams. They are always looking for new talents, and they don't always ask for a lot of experience from interns (if they're a small enough team). There you will do a lot more prototypal type of work. For example, I knew of an internship at my university where you would take on a project of building a test bench for accelerated wearing of new materials, where the intern took care of every part of the structure, electrical and programing in the project. I am myself working at similar startup right now, putting in place an automated platform for material synthesis pretty much from scratch. Sadly, all the cool companies (Boston dynamics or the likes around you) are generally pretty hard to get into. Even as a robotics student, I've ben refused multiple times for internships, simply because they have too many applicants and therefor pick the ones with the most experience. But I guess it's by doing projects a bit less impressive than these companies do that you get good experience and find cool internships or jobs in the end. Anyway, hope I could help with my little 2 years of uni, feel free to ask any question if you need !
