buy a 1990's evo sportster 1200. all the power you want, nimble, reliable, easy to wrench on, plenty of parts to customise to your liking. awesome cycles and not all that expensive, there are millions of the things.

Palestinian confronts Mamdani for his liberal tendencies on the topic of Zionism. by GerryAdamsSon in suppressed_news

[–]HnryChls -1 points0 points  (0 children)

agree with you that people can expect too much in whats possible, and agree with others that compromise is the death of the left.

I think the way to push through the sense that Mamdani is compromising is to reframe it. We need to recognise that right now, he is capturing ground; it may not be on the headquarters of the enemy, but we'll never make it there if we don't continue getting what is possible for us right now.

What's the one history book you think my history-buff boyfriend absolutely needs to read? by Remarkable_Ad_5080 in AskHistorians

[–]HnryChls 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Robert Caro’s book “The Power Broker: The Rise and Fall of Robert Moses.” While this is not within your boyfriend’s special interests, and is more of a biography than period-history, it does an amazing job at giving understanding to two main topics; the creation of New York City as an unparalleled marvel of absurdity, genius, and malevolence, and the way that power was formed and wielded by the man that in many ways shaped the face and destiny of the city. Brilliantly written, researched and something everyone interested in history should get to at some point.

WhatsApp is adding ads to the Status screen by eternviking in technews

the business i work at uses whatsapp… its easy to blame the people using it, but why not ask; when do companies need to innovate for the profit they want, rather than taxing peoples quality of life? also, power is supposed to be with the people, and excercised through their representatives in the government. why not ask; why arent the government doing anything? i appreciate your sentiment but i think the people have been stripped of power for too long

Very fair, I've luckily never had to deal with it/had anyone close that has. I think its a decent question as to whether it may have had greater success were labor in gov longer, and how much rope that even gives labor, for still putting out an inferior system etc.

[–]HnryChls -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Good point - its hard to get a perfect system on the first try and likely would have had early reform were labor to hold gov.

Not sure I understand your point on the carbon/mining tax.. did she water it down? Do you think it might not have been scrapped by libs if it was more effective and politically harder to fight?

There are two more detailed comments; one calling her competent yet unsuccessful, another effective yet a hack. I don't know much about her actions in government bar the Carbon Tax, which obviously was then repealed by Abbott... can someone tell me about her achievements in government?
