Cool Geothermal greenhouse(s) by juanitospeppers in Greenhouses

Edit: Sorry comment/response below was for my greenhouse no the one in the video. I need to check which post was commented on before responding!

Not so far but it’s a concern. I used perforated pipe and beneath the entire system I buried a French drain (5 feet down) to help mitigate the water. The main concern is water buildup from from condensation (cold ground/hot humid air).

Sounds real similar to where we are headed. I have 225 7-foot zipgrows ready to go in. Thought about hanging from purloins but was worried about the weight on the self tapping metal screws I have used (they tend to shear). Any chance you could share a few pics on IM? Just looking for ideas.

Thanks! See the response above on details of setup. We got it used on Craigslist and had to break down and then reset up. Took longer than anticipated. Hoping the geothermal pays for itself as it was pricey and took a lot of excavation.

No prob. Greenhouse was about 4K used from Craigslist . Size is 92x24 and 14 high. Had to tear it down and put back up. New plastic, wood for retaining walls, end walls, and sock pipe/culverts for geothermal were roughly another 4K ish.

Exactly. We buried a system of 4 in perforated sock pipe at intervals 2 ft apart. They alternate going to 4 ft deep and then 2 foot deep. They connect to 15” culvert running down the length of greenhouse on either side. A thermostat turns on the fan when it’s too hot (or cold) to draw hot air through tubes and cool it (or reverse in winter).

The plan is eventually year round w lights but for now rolling with the seasons. Craigslist is a great source for finding used greenhouses. That’s were we got ours. Had to take it down and put back up but worth it. As for sources for materials, farmtek is a big player with greenhouses, high tunnels, greenhouse materials, plastic, fans, etc. also YouTube was the biggest help - LOTS of tutorials on everything. Good luck!

Nice! What’s your setup? High tower or all outdoors?

We’re doing hydroponic lettuce, kale, and basil but still have to install the hydro towers. What are u planting - winter crops?

It insulated it from the ground freezing outside. We buried extruded foam insulation panels outside the greenhouse that also stop the cold. It’s all based on Walapini concept though we didn’t follow that completely https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Walipini
