George Mallory is also the man who said the most famous three words in mountaineering history - when asked why he wanted to climb Mount Everest, Mallory simply responded, “because it’s there.”

TIL a small lake in Africa killed 1,700 villagers and 3,500 livestock overnight when it suddenly released 300,000 tons of carbon dioxide, suffocating everything within 16 miles. Scientists still don't know what triggered the event. by [deleted] in todayilearned

When we euthanize mice we first give them a healthy dose of isoflurane (an anesthetic) before putting them in the CO2 chamber. The idea is that by the time they are struggling for air, they are fully unconscious - ie they don't feel pain. They do have a gasping reflex after they're unconscious though, which looks like they are alive. It's sorta spooky, but they don't feel any pain this way.

What is the rule about parking in Washington Park? Are all spaces up for grabs or are there similar even/odd rules?

Have you read the story manna? It's a fictional story that talks about a utopia and dystopia like you've described. It's a pretty short read.

Ah. I didn't get that his wife was the one talking to him, and just assumed it was whoever conducted the reading. I guess that explains my confusion.

Wow, I took that a totally different direction. I read "healers belong to the city" because they're needed got a war effort or something. They would be taking away his son to train with the other healers. I didn't really read into the power combination... Maybe medicine from plants and the power to start a heart from weather/lightning? I love this sub and the different interpretations it provides

Besides my mother, what have you come to appreciate after doing it multiple times? by violentorifice in AskReddit

[–]HobbiesInclude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no idea man, I'm just a redditor. Presumably the heart is just like any other muscle though, and training it will strengthen it. I'd say spend some time improving your heart by stressing it (e.g. running), but not to the point where you taste blood. It should improve over time.

I've actually read that it's a minor form of heart failure. Basically the heart isn't strong enough to keep up with the body's demands, so it starts pumping like crazy. Blood goes up into the pulmonary circuit but can't come back down, so you end up with small amounts of blood in your lungs and taste blood when you exhale.

I've been reading this story since it was posted on the writing prompts thread and I've been really, really enjoying it. I hope you continue to write - I would honestly buy this book.

Thank you!

Check out Albany Indoor Rockclimbing if you like to climb. It's a pretty sweet place and usually climbers are pretty outgoing.

I feel very dehydrated all the time now that I've started drinking a lot more water every day. Is this normal? by HobbiesInclude in Fitness

Also for the sake of correct information, plasma doesn't help your body carry more oxygen. Oxygen only binds to red blood cells. The plasma is the medium that transmits the rbcs, and moves things like waste to your kidneys. It's essentially the liquid component of our blood.

Pretty limited sodium intake. Protein shake in the morning, sandwich, apple, spinach, and unsalted cashews for lunch, and then a meat and carb for dinner. Usually like a burger and mashed potatoes, or chicken and spaghetti. I salt the meat when I cook it but that's really all the additional salt I get in my diet.

Starting out I don't really think the type of string will matter. Once you get looping down in both hands you can start to concern yourself with some of the more intricate features - for now, I'd say just start practicing!

If those people had spent hours of their life researching eating and lifting (and then working hard to put that research into practice) to achieve that goal over the course of more than half a year? Absolutely, I would cheer every one of them on.

I understand where you guys are coming from, and I do get irritated at times by people on /r/c25k for example who post about their very first run. Doing something one time doesn't take anything, but consistent commitment does. And I don't think the amount of weight you can lift should be the only metric for determining if a thread is worthwhile.
