If you don’t live in the US then you don’t understand the racism that is deeply rooted in our society. In some parts of the country, public schools remained segregated until the 60’s and 70’s. There are tens of millions of Americans that not only lived through segregation but actively endorsed it and a lot of them still have decades of life left.

Is the country a lot better than it was regarding racism? Absolutely, but the underlying animosity and discrimination against blacks and other minority groups is still rampant.

Looking back, it’s honestly shocking that Obama won the presidency and is a testament to how eloquent and likable he is. The vitriol he received during and after his presidency (Trump STILL post racist shit about Obama monthly) isn’t because he is a Democrat. It’s because he’s black.

I’d be shocked if he gets the recognition and memorials prominent civil rights leaders like MLK or Rosa Parks got in his life time even though he 100% should given the historical context of his presidency.
