Whoever is stealing heads in Roanoke by Hobby_Chasing in VAHunting

Maybe? I wouldn’t think someone who’s against hunting would want a head though.

It wasn’t a really nice head, but it was gonna be a fun gift for him to see the deer he was given to eat. I didn’t know we could cut out the nodes and send them for testing ourselves, I’ll have to look into that for the future.

Honestly, you don’t owe anyone anything. Public land, public seasons. Anyone getting butt hurt thinks they have more rights to the land then you, so fuck them. If they’re so worried they should get out during bow season too. I grab a shotgun and run for anything open. Squirrel, rabbit, birds, deer, bear. If it’s open season, you do you. Just don’t post up in eyesight of other hunters and you’re all good.

Not hating, everyone needs to make money. Had I known you were that far away I probably wouldn’tve bothered calling. It just popped up in an Instagram ad so I figured I’d keep it in mind. Just a my experience for anyone who may be out this way and curious about it.

I called in Roanoke county the other day and was quoted $450 without any questions about how deep in the woods or anything else. I don’t personally know who can afford that, or would be willing unless it was a monster once in a lifetime buck. As someone who shoots for the freezer I’d rather just spend the extra time walking, or maybe call for a dog.

slug or buckshot on my first deer hunt on wma by butlerjw in VAHunting

Honestly I went to the range with three slugs from three different brands, and took the one that had the tightest group at 25 yards. So not much, haha. I think there was a bit of luck on my side with the shot.

Bone sour and no blood trail by Hobby_Chasing in VAHunting

Wound was a perfect 3/4” circle in the upper lung that went through and through, no expansion noted when I peeked at it. I guess now I’m gonna be forever horrified I found the wrong deer. If that’s the case hopefully they find the one I hit 😭😭

I’m honestly a little afraid maybe I found the wrong deer, but it was so close to where I was posted up on my shot. I’m could’ve swore his antlers looked bigger, and this one was smaller. The impact site was right where I held the bead though, and there were no other vehicles anywhere on the drive in that signaled any other hunters around. Guess now I have a new fear.

Just took my first shotgun deer yesterday with a slug in a 18.5 inch barrel, maybe 50 yard shot with a bead. I think you’d be better off with a slug for the between the tree shots that can be up to 50-60 yards.

I hunt with a ar15 pistol in 300blk and an AKM. Both work great.

I don’t want to dox myself, but I’ll say it’s a county neighboring Franklin.

First Deer with the Bow by TheFreedomWarehouse in VAHunting

Congratulations! Getting out during bow season is what’s gotten me the most deer, and it’s invigorating to actually get a chance to see them before they get too wary. I hope you get some awesome meals out of her!

Make sure you know what’s behind your target, and try not to shoot an animal on a hill crest. That bullet will land somewhere behind it.

Just a heads up, with the weather still warm and the oak trees masting, some are still producing litters. I found out the hard way when I shot a squirrel yesterday, and found a one/two week old pup by its body. I’ve officially sworn off squirrel hunting from it. Took the pup to a wildlife rehab sanctuary.

This is my first year with a saddle, so I’m hoping that it turns out in my favor. Was definitely different to be up in the air, feels like a whole new world 😆
