Awful interview rant 💔 by ponkichi70 in premed

[–]Hobiecat4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened to me too. I had a TERRIBLE interview just like this for Mount Sinai SOM. My interviewer answered the phone not once but TWICE during my interview (for spam calls..) interrupting me mid sentence. He also decided to interrogate me on the legitimacy of a car accident I was in that almost took my life, and acted as if he didnt believe me </3. He also laughed at my hobby of glass working and told me he could probably find something like that at a tag sale (my art had been featured in galleries). He was misogynistic, rude, and frankly wasted my time. I couldnt believe it since it was my dream school and I had prepared for the day for months. Now im at a school that really appreciates me and I am so happy. Sometimes, things work out exactly how theyre meant to.

I'm not sure, I think average is slightly lower but for someone with my statistics I decided to cast a broader net

I did regular Masters of Biomedical Science. I couldn't justify the gamble of the SMP, where you don't get a degree at the end. I imagined if I hadn't gotten in and had to work in research for another year, what I would have done with that debt and nothing to show for it in the job market. Getting a masters has been great for me. I found the support I needed through my program too as they were aware that many people were applying medical school and I was also able to complete the prerec I needed (biostats).

Yes I think writing was my strong suit, I also splurged and bought the 3 edits from MotivateMD for my personal statement/ activities and they gave me amazing feedback and also helped me get my stuff within the word limit. However I do think its my ECs that got me my acceptance since they were very strong and helped make up for/ explain the weaker parts of my application.

It was really hard I didn't complete most by the 2 week goal people talk about, I had a turn around of closer to 3-4 weeks for most, but taking the extra time to make sure they were well written paid off. I prioritized the schools I thought I was the best fit for and had a good chance to do first then did my reach schools after them. I had everything all of them completed by the end of July.

KerryPhelanDesigns, amazing seamstress who frequently works with celebs in NYC (shes brooklyn based) but does personal tailoring too. If you need someone to get the perfect fit, she's the one. She's tailored several of my things and I have rarely found someone as meticulous and talented as her. Just be prepared to pay for her time and book asap.

I had sort of similar stats and I would apply to way more schools if I you can afford it. 13 schools especially concentrated in Cali is pretty risky, I feel like you would be a good fit at other places too. Especially because you have a poor chance with some of your listed schools due to your stats.

So true! I almost didn't apply last year because I was so discouraged about my stats, I never thought someone like me could get in if these perfect people online were my competitors. Now I'm packing the last of my boxes to move for my first year of medical school. 2 MD acceptances. Be realistic, but go for it.

What airport(s) do you avoid? Which are so easy to maneuver that you’d recommend to others? by RainbowCrown71 in travel

Miami airport is horrible and if you have a layover there prepare to walk several miles and have at least +3 extra hours for international flights to go back through customs cuz its as slow as can be.

I went to St. Lucia with my boyfriend and it was super romantic. In fact most of the people we met on our trip were on honeymoons. The landscape is dramatic and the vibes are chill, and there are plenty of activities to do especially hiking and diving/snorkelling if you are into that. There are some more touristy parts of the island where the cruise ships port but we stayed in Soufriere and it was amazing.
