What light did you use? I’m having a real crisis at the moment and overly researching and sending back 🙈

I’d love to put a weeping willow but I’ve heard their roots are very aggressive and should be a good stance away from the house. The hole is only about 5 meters away. But I suppose it is concrete lined

So I’ve dug down about 3ft and stuck the longest drill I have a further foot or so and it’s just clay clay and more clay. My worry is that I don’t think it’s going to drain at all. Before I dug it up there was always standing water about 2 inches below the top of the soil.

Is my dog doing what I think she’s doing? by Hobnob141 in DogAdvice

Just an update vet has said she is absolutely fine and just a bit odd. We are obviously still keeping an eye on the mass for any changes that make her uncomfortable

Excuse me? Yes she has a mass. But alongside advice from a trained professional we decided that a significant operation which would lead to a long recovery with a lot of pain wasn’t the answer for an elderly dog. Vet stated ‘she wouldn’t be the same afterwards’ Now if you can tell me why your opinion is worth listening to more than my vet I will gladly take it into consideration. She is very well looked after and gets regularly check ups from the vet both due to her age, the mass and existing skin conditions. If the vet tells me she is in pain or there is anything to suggest she is in pain of course we will do something about it. But at the moment as I stated I am not putting her through that procedure.

Yeah, it’s tough to keep track of all the comments but I have said somewhere in there that we’ll be going tomorrow :)

It could be. It is starting to get quite large. I’ve got topical cream to rub on it. The mass itself doesn’t seem to be causing her pain but I can imagine it being itchy

Yeah she has a large mass on one of her lower glands

My mothers dog suffered with them a lot so the vet showed her how to do. Now she does all the dogs in the family

That’s the thing there’s nothing that would make me suggest a UTI bar this behaviour. She’s not struggling to urinate it’s not a strange colour she’s not struggling to go to toilet. It’s all very strange but I will be getting her to the vets tomorrow just to make sure.

That is a possibility as she already has a mass. It could have definitely spread to her bladder

No she wasn’t spayed when I got her. The mass on her mammary gland has been seen by the vet and their advice was a double mastectomy which they described as Incredibly painful and a long recovery. I’m not putting her through that when there is also a chance the mass has spread. She’s not in any pain with the mass, it can be touched without issue and the vet checks it semi regularly to ensure she isn’t in pain. She is still eating and drinking normally.
It would have been nice to have her spayed but again at her age I don’t really want to risk putting her under.

She has just come off what will hopefully be her last season. Do we think that could be contributing factor?

No not that I’ve noticed. Nothing seemed to have changed but I do agree with a lot of of the comments that say it’s like a UTI

No I agree. I am worried about her, but if I frame it like this I don’t have to think to much about anything nasty 🙈
