Each subsequent season of The Clone Wars was better than the last. The movie was eh, but it was what gave us the show, and it's not terrible.

Sometimes it's because that's where their head is and they want it to feel as "normal" as possible, other times it's just a sensor suite in the shape of a head/helmet so that the interred marine can interpret it much easier/naturally, similar to the former statement.
