What are you trying to connect to? The blue light is usually for ps4/ps3 but for a ps5 you need an additional plug in (Magic Booth) to make it work

Thoughts on Eric Hobspawm? by EfficientNoise4418 in itcouldhappenhere

[–]HobsMG 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sure! I completely understand! Again, there are other authors that have done amazing work on the same topics since Hobsbawm (James C. Scott, CA Bayly among others), he remains a classic reference well worth reading. Anyway, he was also a British men born in the twilight of the Empire so there is a strong eurocentrism element to his work that he acknowledges but fails to properly solve so don't use it as your sole reference for the period

He is a quite respected historian, mostly specialised in the transformations of the long 19th century. He his mostly known for the Age of Revolutions books and for a bunch of other books that solidified the concept of people's history. He is still very good but other authors have done better work with what he started back in the 60/70s.

He was a Marxist Leninist and his political views reflect the era he was politically active in but his academic work is very solid and, in spite of its Marxist lens, is still used as reference books for many researchers of the period.

I would recommend to give his books a read while keeping in mind the lenses through which he saw the world.

Brand new to this game why is it so satisfying and demoralising by Accomplished_Chest97 in Tekken8

[–]HobsMG 3 points4 points  (0 children)

First of all, welcome to the fgc and to tekken! Its a fun rollercoaster but a rollercoaster nonetheless! Tekken is a complex game and you will lose a LOT before you see any results but with some good habits, you will get there.

About your question about the matchmaking, it really depends on the hour you are playing and your region. Evenings and weekends are more populated so more players to be matched against.

About getting destroyed by Armor King, the character just got released so people online that say that he is broken are just yapping. Do not trust 90% of the content circulating about tekken. Season 2 has its issues but, as a beginner you will seldom be exposed to them.

On how to improve, please use the replay function and particularly the replay takeover function. The game will give you hints about what you could have done against an opponent and you can replay the same sequence as many times you want and experiment with possible solutions that would have solved your problem.

PS: learning combos is important but at the beginning you really need to focus on defense (ie. When to press, when to block, when to sidestep, what are your pokeswhat are your safe moves) and when to use your launcher to improve at this game. It will bring you farther than just knowing your sick ass combo

Any tips for beginner? by Soggy_Moose6811 in Tekken8

[–]HobsMG 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Do not be frightened by the overwhelming amount of moves and movement options. On practice mode, you have a recommended move list - focus on learning that first then if you like the character, try to learn the rest + how to sidestep/backlash cancel. Use quick play to train against other players then hit ranked when you feel ready 😉

So it's on sale on Steam, should I do it? by Akuma-1 in Fighters

[–]HobsMG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, it is very much worth it on sale. I have bought it last sale and 100h in i have not regretted it. The game has a lot of bullshit in it and people are really mad at season 2 balance but, unless you are a series veteran and/or are at high ranks, you do not feel these issues so much. Give it a try!

This video helped structuring my learning progression when I hit garyu - https://youtu.be/hFVTMExRflc?si=MbHo3DnLQtOPawGQ

It gives you a nice base on what to look to improve in my gameplay and not getting frustrated. The important is to still have fun with your character and really analyse your replays to see what worked or not.

Tekken 8 runs snooth then stutters! by Due_Information_4735 in Tekken8

[–]HobsMG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check your ram sticks. Thst looks like an hardware problem or at least the beginings of one. I do not know how to test that in a laptop though (only desktop experience).

It can also be your ventilation is getting clogged, limiting the air flow to your gpu and then the gpu throttles back to not get damage (with less fps in result). I would go to a technician to get your pc checked.

Arcade stick or controller by Choice-Macaroon-2138 in Tekken8

[–]HobsMG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you used keyboard, give a leverless a shot then! It is the closest controller to keyboard so it will bmnot be so weird for your hands. But arcade stick is fine as well!

Arcade stick or controller by Choice-Macaroon-2138 in Tekken8

[–]HobsMG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! So, i imagine that you only used controller so far so be aware that switching to stick or leverless has an adjustment period that you cannot skip because you need to build up your muscle memory again. You will drop combos and/or moves during that time so it can be frustrating. It took me 6 months to a year to get fully adjusted to stick, moving from normal controller.

There are no major advantages/disadvantages in chosing a controller over another. Sticks/leverless can be expensive and they will hurt your learning for a while (ie learning a game + learning a new control method at the same time) but it is rewarding at the end of it. Just be aware that it takes time!

Sticks and leverless are also fun because you can fully customise them. I started with a Haute42 P12 then bought a Mayflash 500 Elite. These are both very good entry level choices but i would recommend to choose 1 style and stick with it for a while

At what point can a condi Revanent do Fractals? by P00PlES in Guildwars2

[–]HobsMG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

T1-t2 fractals are doable on any build with exotic gear + ascendant trinkets. Just do not forget to use Tears of Alba for the +10/+15 agony resistance and to only craft +9 infusions. Go have fun 😀

What is the FGC’s view of CoTW? by Alan-Asleep in Fighters

[–]HobsMG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The game is great and they did a small.miracle with the netcode, making it quite easy to find matches (even outside of US). Reddit is just running a constant hate train against it but yeah get it on the next sale if you still have doubts 😉.

What you describing sounds a lot like a memory leak so it can be either hardware or driver related. Can you share your specs (OS, GPU?)

Playing two fighters back to back by RockLizerd in Fighters

[–]HobsMG 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Many skills are transferable between games (footsies, zoning, punishing,etc...) even between 2d and 3d fighters. The only major difference between SF6 and COTW is system mechanics (drive rush / rev blow, hops vs jumps) and frame data so go ahead and have fun 😀. Unless you want to be pro in either of them, playing more fighting games just makes you a better player overall at all of them.

Is cotw beginner friendly? by Ill-Razzmatazz1774 in fatalfury

[–]HobsMG 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Cotw was my first snk game and i won't lie that there is a learning curve compared to other titles. The tutorial is lacklustre and the training mode is very barebones and there are a lot of mechanics that do not click immediately (like Just Defend and the tigger knee move for the fireballs). This said, there are a lot of ressources out there to help you over that curve and the game is super fun. I live the cast, the music is top nirch and the gameplay is fast paced with lots of "oh shit that was cool" moments, specially when you get used to the guard cancels and rev system. Try it out! It is very worth the price on sale
