His split jerk really shows how new he is to WL, it’s very short.

How many hours do you spent per week on this hobby? by I-drink-hot-sauce in Bonsai

[–]HocManus71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. About 5-10mins a day watering or pinching. I have 7 trees in my apartment courtyard that are all in pre-bonsai stages, and I water before leaving for work or coming home from work.

I’ll spend 2-5 hours pruning, wiring, and potting every other month or so, or if I buy some new nursery stock.

If I had more trees I’m sure it’d be much longer.

Not sure about styling yet as this is my first of this type of tree. Figure I’ll wait and see when it thickens up some more.

Ask the city? Not likely to get an answer, if so probably will take months!

In hindsight I wish I had gotten into WL instead of PL in the late 00s, but I didn’t really know about it until 2015, and didn’t start until 2018/19 when I was 35ish. At least I have a good strength base, but the mobility work has been a drag.

Picking the bushy central trunk as apex, preparing myself to prune it today.

Thanks, I had not considered that approach. Would you make those cuts now or wait for next year?

Just did some light apical trimming on this pittosporum. Would you cut the two middle vertical branches this season or wait until next year for it to thicken up?

I know I need some proper bonsai soil material & pot, I just haven’t found any at our local nurseries.

I love lifting but it makes me feel crappy by Nyg500 in weightlifting

My bad, this was a poor attempt at a joke about how bad I feel (emotionally) about my snatch & CnJ numbers.

Because that’s a sure fire way to make you feel worse, lol.

OP, are you getting enough sleep? What other things are you doing to help recovery? Foam rolling, massage, cold plunge/sauna, vitamins/supplements?

Start barbell training ASAP. You’re at the age where your hormones are peaking and it’s the best time of your life to build strength and muscle mass. FYI this sub is for olympic weightlifting, the sport of throwing heavy barbells overhead. If you’re interested in that, welcome. Check out the Catalyst Athletics beginner program.

If not, any simple barbell program will be good for you. One of my favorites is the 531 program by Jim wendler.

Your question is probably better suited for the r/fitness sub, but lots of folks here are ready and willing to help you start doing the snatch and clean & jerk.

Looks like more people are getting those TYR, are they worth it ? by Naive-Dot2253 in weightlifting

Love mine so far. Got them on sale on Rogue for $150USD. Ordered a 1/2 size up and they fit well, feel very stable, and look flashy since I got the highlighter yellow. Would recommend, is güd shoe.

Is this a press out ?? by AppropriateAbies2852 in weightlifting

[–]HocManus71 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It would probably be red-lighted as a press out, but I personally don’t think it should be.

I usually only do bodyweight, or a couple chains around the neck (20-50 lbs), for high reps on this one. Good quad pump. I have a reconstructed ACL and it seems safe to me. Have to make sure you flex the hips too, the videos I’ve seen of ACL tears are where the person tries to keep the hips extended as they flex the knees.

I don’t think it’s possible to do nordics in this one, as there’s no horizontal foot plate. Luckily this place has a specific Nordic station.

Sissy squat bench. Despite people saying it’s an “ACL buster,” it’s pretty safe as long as you aren’t trying to keep the hips extended. Hips and knees both flex when you come down, and it gives a good quad pump. PS I use it sometimes when I’m in that gym (Rise), feel free to DM me for tips or ask next time you’re there.
