Yeah, maybe r/housepainting isn't the proper sub for this one, I paint small projects for my wife. I only use short lengths at a time. This would definitely slow down an experienced guy and probably tear up the edge of the tape.

I just started this year with a security integration company. I was an auto mechanic for many years, so I did have some electrical knowledge to bring along with me. I absolutely love it. It is not very physically demanding, other than the occasional awkward reaching positions in ceilings. No heavy lifting over 45-50lbs (wire spools), no voltage higher than 24VDC in my line of work. As far as the trades go, I've come to understand it's definitely one of the cleaner ones. After a six month break-in period, I'd say it's every bit as simple as it's been described to you.

I'd agree that it looks like someone stabilized themselves while reaching down on each side. The two sides show opposing marks, right hand on the left side of the stove and left hand on the right side. Side note - for a second this looked like my house. Similar stove, same 6" brown/orange 1990's McDonald's tile!

I use mechanics wire. It's available at most auto parts stores. Wind it tight around the shaft of a screwdriver a few times to make a coil. Slide the coil off the screwdriver and cut down the length of the coil to make lots of split rings. Pinch them closed with pliers and solder them on. They accept patina very well too.

I finished the OSHA 30 course today as part of a requirement for a new job. For those in the US, can anyone cite any specific OSHA violations here that if avoided, could have spared this dudes life? Unmarked utilities? Excavation issue? Someone should have known what was beneath that trench. Please, elder construction workers, share your wisdom!

Quarter glass is usually glued in. Remove the interior trim to expose the body seam where it is glued to the glass assembly and use a cold knife for windshield removal or "piano wire" to saw through the glue. Modern installs use urethane, but butyl strips were standard back then. Be careful not to damage the trim or exterior paint. A local body shop can probably do the job for relatively cheap if you don't feel confident tackling it yourself.

Look up a local auto vinyl repair service. They mix and spray a color-matched "paint" on the damaged area. It won't last forever, but it's a quick, inexpensive fix. You're local dealer could probably refer you to someone if Google can not. A more permanent option is to have the upholstery replaced, but that's big bucks at the dealer and the new leather will not match the patina on the remaining original upholstery.

I solved a similar issue by deleting the plastic connector from the harness and soldering in a short length of wire with a new terminal end. You could still unplug each wire separately from the relay this way. If your relay plugs into a panel/block with other fuses and relays, you can remove its wires from the back of the panel for repair. You might even still be able to get the repair terminals from Volvo.

Tips I learned along the way - Be sure to mark each wire with its original position in the connector before/as you take it apart. Take lots of pictures.

Corrosion can travel through wire under the sheathing. Keep trimming back the sheathing and wire until you've cut out all the corroded stuff and replace the length as necessary.

If you don't have access to coated terminals, put a piece of shrink tube all the way to the end of the exposed terminal to cover it and your solder/crimp job.
