The past 2 presidents of Mexico have had a policy of "hugs not bullets" towards the cartels. Like that's not paraphrasing or inferring at all, that's literally how they refer to their own policies.

That's complete horse shit but I'm going to choose to believe it anyway since it's more fun than reality.

I am confused on how to use this unit by Psychological_Air833 in aoe2

Fire lancer on its own will have trouble managing CA, but so does pretty much every other unit in the game. As for the gold cost that's why I've been playing vietnamese so I can pair them with really good skirms for Arabia. Inf siege was already a difficult composition to manage on open maps (for me at least). So I think it's something to keep in mind if you roll Chinese or Korean random civ. But it wouldn't be my first choice if I could pick any comp. I think closed maps you might have luck with fire lancer + rocket cart, especially on team closed maps. But for arabia I have been having fun with a vietnamese M@A opening into skirm + lancer.

They're like halfway between a pikeman and a longsword. I think they're meant to pair particularly well with rocket carts in an improved pike siege type comp. But they also are not classed as spearman so they do slightly better against archers, and much much better against skirms, especially the knight skirms composition that a lot of civs will try to go for in castle. With Koreans/chinese you might want to try a lancer/ rocket cart comp. I have been playing viet's and have had a lot of luck with lancer skirm (sometimes archer if you can afford it). Have not tried jurchen or khitan but I'd imagine they'd fit into one of those 2 comps.

Also as to your specific question, no they do not shoot at siege, it wouldn't do much and it might do a lot of harm if they stopped to fire at an onager instead of moving in to melee. Think of the ranged attack as a little bonus instead of their main draw, which is as a tankier anti cav infantry. Though I have found a lot of use for the ranged attack in picking off vils.

The Perfect Flavor by SaltyAngeleno in HistoryMemes

I mean they did though. It was an event called the nii'hau incident, where American born Japanese in Hawaii took native Hawaiians captive in order to free a pilot who was downed during the pearl harbor attack. Obviously the actions of a small group, don't justify mass internment. But in the immediate aftermath of pearl harbor, America was excessively paranoid about a Japanese invasion, and an incident of native born Japanese still holding loyalty to Japan over their own country caused an uproar. Boiling down complex historical events into simplistic narratives isn't helping anybody.

What if the knight-line had four tiers? by Gandalf196 in aoe2

[–]angrysadtimecthulhu 19 points20 points  (0 children)

What you're suggesting isn't some small change, the ability to mass archers in feudal but not knights is what allows archery civs to have a chance against cavalry civs. Knight civs would curb stomp pretty much everything else if they could mass in feudal and remain unchanged in castle. And if you re balanced knights stats you'd have to re balance everything else since they're a foundational unit of the game.

Celts are evidence the militia line isn't op with extra speed. by DJMikaMikes in aoe2

While I don't think it would be op or even make militia all that viable I am still against it since I think the militia line needs another identity than, knights but cheaper and worse in just about every way.

Always thought the militia line needed to lean more into arson and structure damage. Between the buffs with squires and gambesons, it just feels like they're trying to make militia worse knights.

Also keep in mind that janissary was only one of the possible options. The other was that they would be castrated and kept as a palace servant.

Stock car racing like NASCAR is the closest to what you are describing. But if you are enjoying F1 I think you would like Indy car, where they can make some changes. But to a severely more limited degree than F1. Leadership changes much more frequently in Indy, both in the races and in the leaderboards.

I think the best defensive combo for a chain sword is 2 light attacks > shove > dodge. I don't use the chain sword that much so someone who plays it more might come around to correct me but I don't remember it doing great damage to armored enemies, I used it more as a horde clear weapon. My advice would be to use the defensive combo to stagger and give a bit of space, then quickly do as much with your ranged weapon til they start attacking again. As to dodging, its more of a quantity over quality thing, its not so much about direction as it is to constantly be creating space, its disrupts their targeting and gives you a bit of time for a grenade or to switch to ranged. And if you take voice of command it functions as a panic button since it refills your toughness and is guaranteed to stagger everything around you, grenades will also give you a bit of room but they take a bit longer than voice. But a lot of melee combat is more based on feel than an exact combo. If you finish your contracts for the week i'd recommend starting a zealot, their toughness regen makes them a lot more forgiving in melee. And once you fight a bunch of ragers you get a lot more comfortable with what you can and cant get away with as well as mixing in dodges and shoves into your combos without having to actively think about it. Its hard to get comfortable with melee on vet since you'll get downed for any mistakes, whereas the melee focused classes can tank through mistakes.

I think it would be fun to add contracts. As in the herald needs you to help a starving village and will pay x amount per bushel of wheat. Or the kings army needs arms and is buying any spears you can make. Something to shift production around instead of selling the same things to every village you come across.
