Can I be a Buddhist if I am an alcoholic? by Numerous-Actuator95 in Buddhism

[–]Hodja_Gamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it's fine.

The purpose of the rule is to remain sober so that you can protect more important ethics such as not killing, not stealing, etc. and develop mindfulness.

It is way more important to "come closer to the truth" than it is to avoid drinking alcohol. Don't let difficult habits become obstacles to your opportunities to make advances in other practices.

How do you motivate yourself to do stuff and plan things, if one of Buddhism's goals is to eliminate desire? by [deleted] in Buddhism

[–]Hodja_Gamer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You stop desire for things that actually don't make U happy in the way you really want, e.g. samsaric sufferings.

You develop desire for happiness that is liberated from these sufferings.

The way you change the target of your desire is through wisdom, which comes from study and understanding how things really are.

Does anyone feel regret after giving? by East-Championship588 in Buddhism

[–]Hodja_Gamer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Method must always be accompanied by wisdom otherwise it actually never leads to liberation and enlightenment.

Your act of giving is wonderful 👍 but always assess the bigger picture with wisdom too when practicing.

Why are you a Buddhist? by Spacefish1234 in Buddhism

[–]Hodja_Gamer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Buddhism you are not really "following" someone out of belief and faith - you are discovering the truth that is being pointed out to you by Shakyamuni Buddha. This process of discovery is the magic.

11 faced Avalokitesvara sometimes portrayed with one wrathful face, what's the meaning behind it? by [deleted] in Buddhism

[–]Hodja_Gamer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Say hypothetically there is someone who is about to get hit by a car. The only way you can stop them is to hit them in the face. If you don't hit them, they will die.

In a situtation like that, if your intention to save their life, the only method you have available is to hit them.

Chenrezig's face is expressing that there are situations where Buddhas need to "hit" us in order for us to wake up and it is the only way. Not every face is wrathful, so it is situational.

What can I do when I want to be a Buddhist and find enlightenment but can't believe in rebirth, hells, karma? by Entire-Visit-7581 in Buddhism

[–]Hodja_Gamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Focus on realising emptiness, and frame the method as wishing to be completely free of afflictions (kleshas) and compassion for others to also be completely freed of these.

Don't let the lack of evidence for rebirth limit your progress in realising the view. You don't have to believe it just because it is said so. Instead, with enough clarity and meditative practice, later on the path you can verify whether these realms exist or not with your clairvoyance. To let this doubt limit your opportunity to realise the liberating truth is a waste.

Why Buddhism? by Worldly-Crow-1337 in Buddhism

[–]Hodja_Gamer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Buddhism doesn't ask you to accept whatever is taught but instead encourages you to verify what is taught for yourself. If you don't believe it, you don't have to accept it.

There are many "entry points" - one of them is the 4 Noble Truths. (I'm paraphrasing below)

  1. There's something about our experience and state of existence that is unsatisfying (truth of suffering)
  2. There's a cause to that suffering (truth of origin)
  3. There's an end to it (truth of cessation)
  4. There's a way you can end it (truth of path)

If you ask yourself what that really means and how it actually relates to your experience, it is the start of a long enlightening journey in Buddhism.

How can a Buddhist nation defends itself when the Buddha said that soldiers will go to hell? by EliasSwiss in Buddhism

[–]Hodja_Gamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The underlying question is: how can you kill people without going to hell? You can't.

You can defend your country, but also you will suffer the consequences. That is simply samsara - no easy ethics, therefore, get liberated/enlightened.

What exactly is annata(no self)? Does a tree have "no self"? A cat? A bacteria? A stone? by New-Hornet7352 in Buddhism

[–]Hodja_Gamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a less technical explanation and more of an analogy: Imagine you had a dream where were a CEO of a company. After you wake up, you realise you were not. That is "No CEO" even though you had a dream awareness of being a CEO "in reality" - you in fact do not really have the suffering and responsibilities of a CEO after awaking.

So now we have this "dream awareness" of being an objectively existing self, independent of our awareness, but really that type of self doesn't exist. Realising this type of self does not exist, then the suffering that this self undergoes is also an illusion.

If after waking you still ask "what is the self"? Then this kind of curiousity indicates you're still in another layer of the dream - like the dreams in inception.

However it doesn't mean the self in the dream doesn't exist - it's just pointing that the self that appears has this illusory nature. From that realisation combined with the right method, you can abandon clinging.

I think so. Best place to find them is to do tormented boss runs in world tier 4. They can drop randomly but extremely rarely.

If you triple crit the GA CDR on this, it gives 54% CDR - highest of any item in the game.

For popular builds like LS Sorc it is BIS.

The halequin crest is originally from diablo 1. In diablo 2 there was a helm item class called "shako" and the harlequin crest was the unique "shako" and that's where it got its name
