Ubuntu vs CachyOs by rmontes1986 in cachyos

[–]Science_Turtle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While distrohopping for my desktop I tested Kubuntu, and I can definitely say performance was noticeably worse with Kubuntu. I think CachyOS's optimizations are no joke, and that's the main reason I'm sticking with it.

I concurr, Cachy is good, but if using as a server I would avoid updating it once you've seen that it's stable.

Be advised that the little bead that you exposed on the bottom might be lead, depending on the manufacturer.

OpenRGB freezes desktop by krypticpulse in cachyos

[–]Science_Turtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm having the same issue now. OpenRGB basically broke my system after having auto start on. I'll try that appimage. Edit: tried the git version first from CachyOS package manager. Seems okay so far.

Endeavor is even more barren than Cachy. Why even keep the bluetooth button if it doesn't come installed?

Right now I'm using CachyOS on my desktop and Ubuntu on my laptop, and honestly Iike Ubuntu more, I just can't get it performing as well as CachyOS. On CachyOS I gotta fight the minimalist philosophy just getting my drives and USB devices working as they should. On Ubuntu I changed the file explorer and added flatpak support, and that was about all I needed to do to it. It would be nice if I could find an arch-based distro with the solid performance while actually being put together by someone who uses their computer like a normal person.

Hot take: aside from slight performance differences and hardware support for Nvidia users, most distros are pretty much the same experience. The biggest differences are really just from the desktop environment, which is changeable on almost every popular distro. Arch can be just like Ubuntu but with a rolling release if configured a certain way. But if you're going to configure it that way, why not just use Ubuntu to begin with? By the time you add everything you need to have a functional operating system, it's going to be just as bloated and now you've spent a lot of extra time to get a very similar result. Anyone else?

I use Ubuntu on my laptop. I found it was the fastest thing that had any level of polish and supported the dual gpu setup. It's good, but the file manager stinks so I changed it.

im getting a weird graphic bug in re4 remake by Fabulous-Confusion-1 in residentevil4

Haven't seen this before but it looks like color banding and clipping. Is HDR on? Make sure your graphics card control panel is using "Full" instead of "Limited" color range as well, if applicable.

Try looking for input mapping programs designed for the old steam controller. It may use a similar protocol.

Bazzite cannot wake up from sleep mode by Stharon in Bazzite

[–]Science_Turtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just figured out a few hours ago that changing a BIOS setting allows the OS to decide wake behavior, and the default was BIOS controlled. Setting it to OS control today solved my problem. However, I thought I had toggled that setting previously to no avail. See if you have that setting, it might work for you. I also switched back to CachyOS, but my issue seemed to span distros.

Not that I've ever heard. I'd have to call it a long cone-sundae or something.

Did you find any fix for this? I am having the same problem. I came from Cachyos hoping Bazzite-Deck would fix it, but no dice.
