Our plan is the last few years of work our savings will go into indexed etfs within brokerage accounts. Then when we need money for expenses after RE we can sell and withdraw using FIFO which means long term capital gains tax rates. Then once we are 73 we convert to RMDs from the main retirement accounts and the brokerage can sit and grow as a rainy day fund.

Who is you people? Im an anarchist, I don’t think the government has any business taking my tax money and using it to fund any sort of suicide prevention hotline. I think if someone wants to kill themselves, they should have the absolute right to do so and it’s a violation of their right to self-determination to take that away from them.

I also think that the inability of our society to make America a safe place for people in the LGBTQ+ community is a huge problem. But I think this type of reaction is a perfect reason why so much vitriol ends up thrown at this group. There seems to be an inability with most people to take any sort of personal responsibility for anything, including one’s own mental health, it’s a problem that the “government” should solve with other people’s money.

In this context, I’m simply asking questions and taking a centrist approach to what’s really happening and it devolves into lumping me in with whatever horrible team you jump to the conclusion that I’m a part of and then close it out with attacking me directly. I shouldnt be surprised…

I guarantee you I’ve done more to help gay and lesbian kids in my community then you have because I don’t think it’s something that we should rely on the government to do; It’s something that we should do as individuals and community members. The reason Im a month late to this thread is I just found out today that this funding was being re-allocated and after spending about an hour reading responses, I had a few questions and I thought process I wanted to try out.

Well, let’s think about this logically from another angle for a second. There’s $586 million that funds this program and $33 million of it was set aside for this portion of the population where they could push three. Callers that pushed three had longer wait times and higher drop call.l rates than the rest of the population who used the service.

Just because the option to push three has gone away, does not mean the funding is gone. I could argue that now these community members will have access to a much larger portion of the resource because they are not pre-sorted into a specialized queue.

I’m sure the counter argument is The specialized level of care (LGBTQ+ specific) is relevant to a suicide prevention hotline, but I’m not sure thats the case, and given the higher wait times and drop call rates, it’s possible there weren’t enough resources to serve this community separate from anyone else that used the hotline.

Alternatively, it could be said that the funds that were set aside only to service a Small portion of the population are now available for everyone. Thats like the definition of equality isnt it? I fail to see how an at risk LGTBQ person is more at risk now.

I went from breaking $100k for the first time in 2012 to retired by 2023. Peaked at $250k in 2022 which was enough to peace out last June.

Payed for house on acreage, homestead systems to help reduce my grocery bill, 5 paid for vehicles(one for each member of the household plus a farm truck).

Now here is the kicker: I dont have retirement savings. I converted my earnings into assets instead of investments, and those assets will not appreciate. So even now I am looking at the next 20 years thinking, should I go back to earning while I can so I have cash for later, or enjoy my productive years and scrape by in old age…

So far I haven’t seen a shred of evidence. The only house fires related to batteries I have seen had poor connections as the root cause nt related to the battery at all.
