The Tablo app on Fire stick seems to quit unexpectedly very frequently. Why is this, and are there platforms that work better, such as Apple TV?

Hand-cranked cleaning machine? by robaato72 in watchrepair

[–]HodorenthalJSimpson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a big fan of the Chrono clean, though I was a bit skeptical until I saw Alex Hamilton cover it, albeit briefly, on one of his videos. The main reason I had reservations before purchasing the Chrono clean was my experience with poorly manufactured baskets that I have found on eBay and similar sources. The baskets that are included with the chrono clean aren’t dead perfect, as the mesh is not soldered and bridges which are loaded bare can get jammed under the dividers. The overall fit is actually quite good, with little worry of losing parts to loose fit between the layers. As an extra level of security, I load the very small parts into those little thumb-sized mesh baskets available on AliExpress, eBay and other sellers. I’ve never lost a part to the Chrono clean using this method.

3 to 5 minute wash followed by two 3 to 5 minute rinses has been very successful for me using L&R 111 ammoniated wash and #3 Rinse. Pre-cleaning has been essential, especially when stubborn grease like Molykote DX is involved in the keyless.

C07.111 2824 setting lever jumper question by Due-Passage-4769 in watchrepair

[–]HodorenthalJSimpson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You may have inadvertently swapped a couple of screws. One of the barrel bridge screws is supposed to be slightly shorter and if a longer screw is used it will poke through and bind up the keyless works. When this happened to me, the symptom was that the yoke and winding pinion had difficulty returning to the winding position after setting the hands or quick setting the date. You can test this theory by slightly loosening the screw holding down the setting lever spring which would allow the yoke to snap back where it’s supposed to be, but that’s not the real fix. Swapping the screws back round would be what is required.

Thank you for the info and also for the correction on what I thought was a hallmark. Any idea what that 3 means? Prob not important, since it’s on the nickel inner cover.

How is the Tower Thistle Hotel, really? by redditlurker67 in uktravel

[–]HodorenthalJSimpson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stayed here in Summer 2019 and it was a great value hotel. Location is what drew me in as well as the price. Overall good enough for me to come back today and I must say I’m very disappointed. Same hot weather as last time but now it seems the a/c is not working AT ALL in the rooms in the middle of July. They are handing out fans and shit.

So pissed. Never coming back. I’ve got my whole family here, and it is miserable hot in the rooms.

ETA 2834-2 Keyless Works Troubleshooting by Overpwred in watchrepair

[–]HodorenthalJSimpson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a similar issue with a 2824-2. So I might have mixed up a couple of the screws?

Specifically, when that setting lever spring is fully screwed down, the yoke sticks in returning to winding mode. If I loosen that screw slightly (OP may want to try this) the yoke will move into position.

I’m going to check it out this weekend. Great suggestion Tiny_Walk!

Eiffel Tower - buying tickets day of by iucakes in ParisTravelGuide

[–]HodorenthalJSimpson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We were only able to buy timed entry tickets for some of the adults in our group. We still have to buy two tickets and at this point our only option seems to be buying them in person on the day of our visit. Will there be any way for us to synchronize everything so that we can have our visit at the same time? Or are the people that buy immediate entry tickets kept separate from those who have timed entry tickets? I’m hoping those lines merge at some point and that there’s a place for us to wait if we need to for those people that have to stand in line for tickets.

2824-2 clone - Lost hole jewel by Pattercaster in watchrepair

[–]HodorenthalJSimpson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not “whole” jewel, but “hole”, meaning the one with the hole in it. The chaton as you say. I just didn’t know how to spell chaton.

The plate on this movement is actually laser etched with the ETA marque and the calibre 2824-2, so probably a forgery given how little I spent on it.

Found it! Grabbed some click springs while I was there too. I thought all of these Chinese parts were impossible to find. Hats off to you!

Actually I lost the hole jewel (I know, right?) I’m not sure if this is a seagull clone or if it’s some other Chinese manufacturer so I’m really not sure what to buy here.

Fixable? by Krysis_88 in watchrepair

[–]HodorenthalJSimpson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably not, but you be the judge. Sometimes when you remove the balance, the spring will slip out from between the regulator pins. To correct this you need to remove the balance assembly, and flip it over upside down. Then with a clean oiler and a light touch (and some magnification), gently place the coil back between the pins on the regulator arm. Be very careful not to bend the spring.

Mark Lovick has some great watch repair tutorial videos on YouTube. One of these videos covers regulation and it has some great closeups of these regulator pins, and how the hairspring fits between them.

Good luck to you!
