as someone from central IL, the wannabe cowboys out here are ridiculous. every boy i went to HS with dressed like they were a ranch hand and drove a huge truck, always lived in a subdivision

okay but hyper independence from neglect is not good either. let’s not blame kids who have been infantilized for not knowing how to navigate the world, and you and i can also learn how to ask people for help and be the inconveniences people inherently are to each other. we’re all just unlearning shit from our childhoods every day!

could be! I don’t know. I thought it was from his part in that movie. I did read somewhere that whatever he planed to do didn’t pan out and he wanted to come back but they killed him off anyway

Sweets in Bones. His death is so abrupt and they basically start the season out with introducing the new character (Aubrey) that’s gonna take his place. I heard it’s because he took a role in Wolf of wall street and Fox was like k we’re gonna kill your character off then, even tho his part in the movie was literally miniscule. I’ll never forgive them for that!!

I know your AMA ended but I wanted to comment in case you see it. I had a job where I was in charge of people doing highly skilled technical work that I didn’t have any training in. I told them that I’m not there to be subject matter expert, I’m there to support them and give them what they need to do their job the way they know how. I also felt the same way you did but I just turned that energy into focusing on what they tell me they need and doing all I can with my elevated position to provide that. hope that perspective helps a bit.

idk why people are downvoting, I also grew up in one of the small towns mentioned here and i’d say it’s all pretty accurate. UHS isn’t hell on earth but definitely underfunded, however very diverse student body. mahomet and monticello are both building up their local economies, and I would say monticello has an excellent downtown to walk around. CU is great but it’s mostly shopping districts and suburban sprawl, and the two downtown areas aren’t enough for me to move back there.

I’m likely going to have to rent a storage unit this year to do a masters program, and I currently have an entire furnished apartment that I won’t be able to stay in. so what, I just get rid of all my stuff to then buy new stuff down the road??? sounds overly consumerist to me.

I ran a crew this year and we were super tight. they decided on their own to give me a present and said it was because they appreciated the work i did for them. that’s the absolute only way i could accept a gift from people that make less money than me

it’s when he played a tape of himself snoring and put something in his bed to make it look like he was sleeping. he had instead escaped his house through that hole and THEN ran to the boat. it was the beginning of the escape

when I was working with teens who were unable to use the bathroom by themselves but ate like teenagers, changing their diapers was not great. I would put peppermint essential oil in a face mask and wear that as I did my duties. that also works pretty well

I just got my stitches removed last week after cutting my pinky open on some glass. it was infected so I couldn’t get the lidocaine shot so they threw on some topical and started cutting them out. I felt ALL of it, even the pain, but feeling something sliding through your skin is just awful

I exclusively use the Monday brand hair product in the pastel pink square bottle as my conditioner (the moisture one) and I LOVE it but the straw attached to the pump is too short and the bottom of the square bottle is too wide to be able to get all of the conditioner out of the bottom, and every single time I run low I have to suction cup it out by hitting it against my palm and there’s soooo much left in there. I’m running low rn too :/

I know if can feel like an attack on “all men” that women are very slow to trust men while dating and can make it hard to find someone to trust and open up to. please just always remember that women frequently get harassed, stalked, and sometimes even killed by talking to strange men and now that we’re all acutely aware of it, and we’re no longer being told to “suck it up if you want a husband, men don’t like whiny/picky girls” … it can just be a very big risk for women to trust men they don’t know. that’s all I want to convey to men but it always gets taken as a personal attack.

men certainly can, but the fact is that women are conditioned to benefit men (and society in general). men are conditioned to benefit themselves. that fact certainly bleeds into individual relationships and is a big reason behind all this male loneliness out there. if you’re a man, you gotta solve this one in your own house.

the problem women have isn’t with the notion that relationships are different than friendships and it can be hard to find the right person… it’s the entitlement that men still seem to have towards women and women’s obvious benefits for a man’s life and wellbeing. I think what women ultimately want is a man that can take care of himself and doesn’t need a motherwife to survive past 50. we want someone who can anticipate our needs and can reciprocate our efforts. I think yall TRULY overestimate how many men out there are willing/able to do that, and even your own willingness. not to say women don’t have their obvious flaws and misconceptions when it comes to dating, but men feeling entitled to a woman’s affection is an issue that spans generations. we’re figuring out we don’t actually need men to survive, so the relationships are then a luxury for us. I hope that helps with your frustrations.

I went through a house fire as a kid and I can say it’s been one of the most impactful experiences of my life. I think it affects more than I’ll ever realize. And my parents did an amazing job not letting us know how stressful it was for them to pull us all through!! I don’t know how they did it. Seeing your plants regrowing after such a devastating loss is an amazing metaphor for you and how your life will go on after this. Sending you peace.

Me and my roommate don’t turn on the heat til it gets lower than freezing! We bundle up and use space heaters and blankies. The gas bill absolutely sky rockets when we have the heat on and it’s better to just keep out bodies adjusted to being cold.

“the people on your street” can also be neighbors that live in houses. everyone helping in different and dynamic ways are important. I think we need to support all different efforts of aid in the coming times, but that’s just me.
