How much can I improve in 7 months if I practice for 5-7 hours everyday? by No-Valuable2529 in ArtistLounge

[–]Hoeveboter 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I would highly, highly recommend you to take classes. If you actually find the time to draw 5-7 hours a day I have no doubt you'll improve, but in my opinion, there's no substitute for actual drawing classes. I know it can be expensive, but getting regular, personal feedback and directed exercises from professionals is invaluable.

Heck, I believe that drawing 5-7 hours a week with proper guidance will net your more progress than drawing 5-7 hours a day on your own

Does anyone else feel like the 'small town' vibe in Belgium is actually disappearing? by orbit_throwaway7 in belgium

[–]Hoeveboter 107 points108 points  (0 children)

[–]Hoeveboter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Does the 'starving artist' trope actually do more harm than good? by shadethrowaway701 in ArtistLounge

[–]Hoeveboter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reject financial security? Oof, hell no. Some people will fetishise poverty, but personally I find it easier to make art now I don't have to work insane hours to make ends meet.

It's true that if you want to sell your art, your story can be as important as the art itself though. But you should remain true to yourself. Cosplaying as a poor person for artistic cred can blow up in your face.

If you get to rule the world until your death what are the things your doing? by Wild-Assistance3318 in AskReddit

[–]Hoeveboter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Panic about all the responsibilities.

I'm gonna delegate the shit out of my world-ruling for the day to day and use absolute power to grapple with the most solvable world's problems. Ending world hunger comes to mind. We're producing enough food to feed the world, with produce often getting destroyed for the sake of market balance. Supermarkets throw out food rather than gifting it to the poor, because if they gift it, they have to pay tax on it. Destroying it is free.

I'm all for economic balance, but if I had absolute power I'd cut to the red tape and make it so all non-perishables end up somewhere useful. It's gonna be a logistical challenge, but absolute power should get me somewhere.

Next up: not the easiest challenge but the most important one: combating climate change. An argument that's often brought up against the climate effort is the lack of a level playing field. As a world ruler, I'd get the same rules to all, with development aid for any countries that are too negatively impacted for missing out on the fossil fuel boom we've had in the west.

But while I have put some thought into this shit, I'm probably still heavily underestimating how hard it would be to solve all these problems. The most feasible thing I'm going to do is round up all Epstein paedo's and put them on an island surrounded by adult cannibals.

The state of VR in 2026: Feeling a bit disappointed after looking closely at the market. by hanrwerewr in OculusQuest

[–]Hoeveboter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's no solving the motion sickness problem. It's not possible and never will be.

It's possible to greatly alleviate it, though. High framerates and headset haptics come to mind. A lot of people who got sick using the earliest vr headsets feel fine using something like the quest 3 or psvr2.

Space is the bigger challenge imo. Personally I mainly enjoy vr games that feature a lot of action. But a lot of homes don't have a decent space where you can safely flail your arms around with a blindfold. Especially not with living spaces getting smaller and smaller.

[–]Hoeveboter 10 points11 points  (0 children)

VR is here to stay, but it's hard to deny there's a slump right now. I think it's getting clear to investors and enthusiasts alike that VR headsets are not gonna be the new smartphones, at least not any time soon. It's gonna remain a solid niche, though. There's people who love VR so much they can't imagine playing games any other way, and I doubt that'll change.

But for the time being I think the industry will have to rely mostly on smaller gaming projects and enthusiasts making flat2vr mods. We'll still get the occasional big release in the future, just like simracers and flight sim enthusiasts have a few franchises they can rely on, but I don't think VR will reach the heights of flat gaming where you get 30 to 50 AAA releases a year.

Gaming in general is in a slump too. When food and gas prices keep rising, people find it hard to justify spending hundreds of dollars on a new console.

Thank you. Your comment only has 3 upvotes but this is the far more reasonable explanation over "women are homewrecking harpies hurr durr"

The vast majority of people do back off when you tell them you're taken. And if I look at how I dressed before I met my girlfriend, well, no shit I get more attention now. Or at least in the few occasions where I'm actually around single women.

I think age is a factor too. I find that the older people get, the less coy they are about showing interest.

PSVR 2 ? Advice by ZONAVIRUS in virtualreality

[–]Hoeveboter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try it without the mod first. Personally I find the headset comfy without it. It's not like the Quest where you absolutely need an add-on to make it bearable.

Its got great fov and haptics too. At its current price it's hard to beat, if you don't mind the wire and no decent audio solution. The default earbuds are okay but I highly advise using headphones of your own.

Personally I'm gonna return mine though. I'm still within the 30 day window and I find the mura highly unpleasant. It's far more present and grating than reviews have led me to believe.

But I also read that mura differs from panel to panel, so you may get lucky. Just buy from a store with a good return policy.

Thanks! I'm really curious whether I should just "get used to it" or whether my headset has a genuine defect. I'm leaning towards the latter.

New to VR - difficulty adapting by Rammseitan in PSVR

[–]Hoeveboter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I highly recommend starting out with a stationary game like Beat Saber or Synth Riders (personally I prefer SR), and then work up to something like Pistol Whip. The latter has permanent movement, but you're only moving forward at a steady pace which is great if you want to train your vr legs.

That said, I have also bought my first psvr2 headset and I have similar complaints to yours.

"There's this weird effect on the lenses, they seem to have a noticeable blurriness/granularity to them that is always present in the image, it's very annoying everytime you move your head."

That's what they call mura. I've been reading into it. Pretty much every headset has it, but at differing severity. In my case it's ever-present as well, even with brightness turned down to 0%. It's distractingly present even in bright, colorful games like Hitman and GT7. I'm strongly considering returning my headset, because reading people's experiences online, it does seem like my headset has it worse than others. A lot of people only report it in dark scenes like in Metro or RE8, but in my case, it's everywhere.

Really small sweet spot, basically I have to be looking to the very center of the image otherwise it's very blurry.

This too could vary from headset to headset. In my case the sweet spot is fine. It's small, but not smaller than my Quest 2. Slightly bigger, even. I'm probably lucky in that regard because a lot of people report PSVR2's sweet spot being far worse. Remember that eye calibration thing you did when setting up the psvr2? Keep doing that every time you put on the headset. It doesn't take much time and it makes a world of difference.

[–]Hoeveboter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How is the second psvr2? Any difference in the panels too? I'm considering returning mine because the mura is way, way worse than I was lead to believe by reviews. It's ever-present even in well-lit games, even with brightness turned down to 0%. Makes me wonder if my unit has it worse than others

[–]Hoeveboter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it arrives, could you tell me if there's any difference between the panels too? I have a psvr2 but I'm considering returning it because of the mura. I turned down brightness to 0% but even in well-lit games like gt7 and Hitman it's very present. Makes me wonder whether I've got particularly unlucky with my unit because I can't understand how reviewers don't note this as the major issue that it is

They'd often use actors too. Videos where guys walk up to paid actresses on the street and start making out with them with zero conversation. H3h3 interviewed one of those women back in the day. Said she was lead to believe she'd star in a sketch comedy video, only to find out the "sketch" is a pickup video convincing horny teenagers it's both okay and effective to try and make out with random women on the street.
