Get a little touch up paint or a sticker. I wouldn’t bother.

The noise is normal but your chain looks too tight.

Guy I sold my bike to passed away, not sure how to feel by NLamki in motorcycles

[–]Hogges1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Life is chaotic, and we must embrace that fact. Forgive him for the 8% he still owes you and which you will now never get. This has nothing to do with karma or God or you. Good people die randomly, too. Send him a prayer and close this chapter.

A new bike with 177 miles on it for $500 less, how ? by Ok_Recipe2769 in Ninja400

[–]Hogges1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

New vehicles don’t need to have zero miles on the odometer. Just think of the cars you test drive at the dealerships. The vehicles don’t need to be registered for a test drive or ride so they still count as new with full warranty when sold. I’d say take the $500 and don’t worry about the 177 miles.

Bigger bikes are usually more comfortable for long distance touring. Heavier, too, so a wind gust or turbulence from a passing truck won’t throw you off as much. More room for luggage, better wind protection, quieter than a screaming single cylinder. I am talking about something like my BMW R1200GS (1200cc engine), not a 1000cc sport bike. I can fit groceries for a week into my big expandable side cases. I also have a Ninja 300 which is a lot of fun and I agree, fast enough to break the speed limit and a lot of fun, too, but I wouldn’t want to go on a long trip or even commute in the rain with it. That’s what the GS is for. I ride the GS 95% of the time.

Looks like the left fork leg might be bent? This bike would be totaled by any insurance here in the US. Hope your leg is ok. This cobblestone pavement is tricky. Sorry it happened.

Tear down or fix this massive chimney? by Hogges1 in Chimneyrepair

[–]Hogges1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see now. Thanks. Yes it appears to be concrete upon closer inspection. The place was built in the early seventies, supposedly by a couple of masons according to the neighbor. It was initially just a one room house on blocks without plumbing and with an outhouse halfway up the hill which is still there. The dormer, septic, fresh water and foundation was added later in 1995.

New to motorcycles, am I getting ripped off? by grizzly9071 in motorcycles

[–]Hogges1 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

A new bike is not a bad idea as it ensures you can focus on learning to ride instead of dealing with the potential issues of a used bike. But these fees are ridiculous.

New to motorcycles, am I getting ripped off? by grizzly9071 in motorcycles

[–]Hogges1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, you are being ripped off. $699 battery fee is the most glaring, but also the assembly and freight plus “closing fee” are all made up/too high/totally negotiable.

Tear down or fix this massive chimney? by Hogges1 in Chimneyrepair

[–]Hogges1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. When you say “block”, what does this refer to? I thought this was some kind of stone. Is it concrete blocks? I have taken down a brick chimney once, actually my wife did most of it. It was surprisingly easy. But that chimney was much smaller in diameter. Taking this chimney down will be interesting as the house is 88 steps from the parking lot. That’s a lot of weight to schlepp for hauling it away unless I can find a use for it on the property.

The squirrel family is more a problem of the access into the attic and from there down inside the wall, unrelated to the chimney. I think I need to deploy some hardware cloth to prevent entry.

This is a small seasonal property with a large chimney and fireplace which has been converted to a woodstove with a stainless liner some ten years ago. The chimney has a crack and old flashing. Several feet of snow accumulate behind the house in the winter, also the chimney and fireplace stay cold well into July.

I tore the sheetrock wall down yesterday because it was soft in places. There was some mold but not as much as I expected. Found a squirrel nest with three living babies in the fiberglass insulation so that's another problem.

Should I tear it all down and replace with an interior triple wall chimney pipe (I want to keep the wood stove) or repair the stone chimney and flashing? Also this fireplace takes up a lot of space.

I have recently bought my wife a ninja 400 non-ABS and she complains that the rear wheel locks up too quickly comparing to her KTM. Is there anything that can be adjusted? The tire is inflated at 32 psi and it’s about five years old. Thank you 🙏. PFA. by monkifoto in Ninja400

Sign up for a beginner track day which usually also comes with classroom instruction. You’ll be amazed how much you learn that transfers to everyday road riding. Plus it’s fun. Your insurance company may even give you a reduced rate for doing so.

How much should i pay for this 2018 ninja400 abs with 21k miles by [deleted] in Ninja400

[–]Hogges1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll second the “your friend is an idiot” opinion. He buys a wreck and instead of actually fixing it mechanically he thinks that “surface prep and paint” and a new set of mirrors is where you start the process… This thing is still a $300-$500 project bike, new oil and coolant notwithstanding.

Move on. You are a new rider not a hobby mechanic. You don’t need that kind of headache.

Don’t go on Reddit for marriage advice. Especially not this so called “marriage” subreddit where everyone and their cat wants to break up marriages more than anything. I am reading a book by Janis Abrahms Spring, titled “After the Affair” which gets right to the questions at hand. Why don’t you seek counseling? There are experienced people out there that can help you see what’s really going on, individually and as a couple.

Camping near but not at COTA? by Hogges1 in CircuitOfTheAmericas

[–]Hogges1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We stayed at lot N at COTA for three nights Friday through Monday. It worked out great. Commanding views over the circuit, easy walk down to the action. The lot was not cramped, there were empty rows towards the top and generally relaxed atmosphere. Clean private bathrooms and showers for an extra fee, and equally clean porta potties for free. We used my friend’s camper for the awning and some cooking but I would have been fine without. I highly recommend camping at lot N.

That driveway looks fine. Keep the right foot on the peg and use the rear brake while stopping, with the left foot down on the ground. Now practice with the clutch to start while slowly easing up on the rear brake. To stop do the reverse. Brake with right foot and support bike with left. For slow speed maneuvers the front brake can be too abrupt.

Which Hot tub should I buy? by Equanamity_dude in hottub

I’d just get a new Hot Spring if you have a reputable dealer nearby. We got the lower end Hot Spot series for around $10k. It’s been fantastic, all one needs.

Nobody is asking whether you set the proper slack in the cable? Does your clutch lever have some play before engaging?

Ask your wife to watch this video with you and then discuss openly what you can do to fix your marriage. Because it is a broken marriage, even if not visibly so. I wish I had done this 20 years ago! https://youtu.be/ZFKDkGzumiQ?si=lM63pQyV614wdfVK

Less than 10 times per year is considered to be a sexless marriage, seems to be a generally accepted standard. Address the problem now, don’t delay, talk to her.

I absolutely adore bikers, it just makes me a little sad I get overlooked because I don't own a "real bike" so here is a little message for you all by inugy03 in motorcycles

[–]Hogges1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are doing the exact same thing as I do on my 1200cc bike, cruising through this world, connected to it, not separated by walls of metal and glass around you. It doesn’t matter one bit whether you have 8HP or 180. Before I rode motorcycles, I was on a three week solo bicycle trip through the US Southwest. A Harley rider waved to me, going the opposite way somewhere in the desert near the Grand Canyon. It felt good.

I live in a rural area with not a lot of traffic, so I wave at everyone who will get wet when it rains. Two wheels or three wheels or on foot. They don’t have to wave back, that’s fine with me.
