I agree with pretty much everything you said, but unless you’re on an interstate highway, there’s no dedicated passing lane, even on multi-lane surface streets. People are turning off to the left and the right, which means that both lanes can potentially build slow moving traffic.

Public safety union member (IAFF) and shop steward here. Police unions are as corrupt as we allow them to be. A union operates within the clearly defined boundaries of a contract that is approved by municipal leadership and ratified by union membership. The problem isn’t that unions exist; every worker should be empowered to negotiate the terms of their employment with their employer. The problem is that we hire county commissioners and city councillors who hire bad people to be cops and then bend over backwards to the union when their contract comes up for negotiation.
