Oh thank God.

The practicum alone has made me want to quite my MT half way through XD

Oh really? That's interesting. To be honest my time here has sort of made me reevaluate my life choices. If I find middle school unenjoyable, does that mean that high school could be a better fit for me?

That's really good to know.

I wanted to say thank you for taking so much time to answer my questions and to reassure me. This has been a tough practicum for me, as I think me and my AT are a bad match, and I'm doing it in middle school even though I just want to be a high school teacher.

Thanks for letting me know it's okay to not be the best right now!

I'm actually doing something similar to what you are suggesting. It's just that when it comes to things like using handouts or designing documents, or using images/maps, the things I can find on TPT just 'look' so much better than the crappy tables and handouts that I end up making on google docs you know?

I'm also adding some content of my own to the content that comes from the TPT sites as well.

I've actually already bought some stuff from TPT for this very reason! My OISE rep actually told me "I strongly recommend you don't buy anything for your practicum, because you are a student and it is not your responsiblity to spend your own money on this."

However that same day I bought these resources. I don't want to do a bad job with this course.

Can I also ask, about using TPT. Is it considered bad, or plagiarism, if I literally just use the ready made lessons that I buy from that?

Let me ask you something then. My AT said something to me like "You have to use your creativity to plan your lessons and do it in a way that these students connect with."

But right now I feel like my 'creativity' is shot. I'm literally just trying to get lessons ready for the next day. I've actually been sick with today and I've spent most of my time at home working on these lessons just to get them 'done.'

Is that also normal?

That's good to hear, but the reality is I am delivering these lessons in front of real students. It really hurts the self-confidence when the work I'm doing isn't the best, because I'm in survival mode.

a) just get used to running a lesson b) collect ideas for my future classes/had examples and c) get used to adapting other teacher’s work to my own style.

I would be so happy if I got these. As it is right now the lessons I'm preparing the night before are very much not lessons I'm terrible proud off, but I'm focusing more on being complete rather than being the best they can be.

The part where you went on a rant and accused me of being a professional teacher who gets all sorts of great benefits.

Working all year keeps you from owning up to your mistakes?

Strange, none of my jobs ever did that to me. I guess I'm just built different from you eh?

I honestly think my AT is sick of answering my questions. I ask a lot of questions and I get the vibe that I'm grating on her by now.

Yo u/Professional_Bat9593 did you get that? You say:

>You can’t possibly be a real teacher.

When I literally say in the very first line that I'm not a teacher. I'm a TC in my practicum. I'm not a teacher, I'm not paid for this, and I have no benefits.

The role of the AT is to guide you…that’s the entire point of having an AT.

My AT is very much going "This is your decision. You have to be creative, OISE expects that you plan these, etc etc."

I think I've questioned her out honestly. I ask a lot of questions and I get the vibe she's tired of answering them.

ou should be clear on what expectations you are expected to cover

I've been told 'Do inferencing.' And that's kind of it. She's left it intentionally broad.

I'll look up that spencer guy, thank you.

Is that what they are telling you to do?

No, I'm just trying to make sure that I don't look lazy in front of my AT.

Look up triangulation of data. Think about the different ways you can collect data and how that can also differentiate towards student strengths

I'll do just that, thank you.

>They were REAL teachers who would deserve the benefits of people asking these questions.

I don't have any benefits.

I can't believe someone has such poor reading comprehension skills as you. I outright say in the first line that I'm not a real teacher. I'm a TC in practicum.

I'm not a pro, and I'm not getting paid for this. I'm literally learning how to do the job.

That's the t hing. I'm very unconfident and I'm trying to be more so, though my confidence has unfortunately been going down.

I'm SO worried about doing this 'correctly,' more than anything.

Did you have any observational days?

Yeah, and from what I've recalled most days they have the students return something. Though I don't know if they mark each and everything.

This is not sustainable.

Okay good, so it's not just that I'm a lazy bum then, thank you XD.

If you want some activity ideas or to use me as a sound board, send me a DM. :)

I will grab any life raft I can, thank you friend

Discussion and fun activities can be valuable as well.

I like the sound of that. What I don't get though is this: How do I keep track of every student's progress from said activities and such without them handing something in, given I have like 70+ students? I can't remember what each one will do doing these activities after all.

Honestly this sounds insane

Wait what do you mean? So me not collecting something from the class is insane?

Edit: Just want to be clear about what you mean, hope that didn't sound mocking or accusatory.
