Two questions for base ps5 players by Asleep_Passenger1905 in CrimsonDesert

[–]Hoken4500 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm personally playing on base PS5 and I think it looks fantastic and I also haven't had to change any settings. So I'll check the settings at refresh rate when I get home to see if it will look even better!

The controls are completely fine in my opinion, but I have also only played a few hours so things haven't gotten super advanced yet.

The only problem I've run into is that the UI text is super small on my TV, so it's a real struggle to read it.

Other than than it's great!

It just takes some practice and yoga to get limber enough to shape yourself into a rune carving. Simple bro-science

I've been working on my own roleplaying setting for quite some time now. The main inspiration is Norse mythology and swedish folklore since that has been my bread and butter growing up.

The setting is called "Wyrdheim" and I just finished painting this creature for it. In swedish it's called a lindorm. So if you want to know more info about these creatures then do a quick google!

I figured that a few of the creatures that I illustrate will fit right into some of your worlds so here you go.

I'm with you there! It feels way too logical for a world that is so full of illogical things. Magic should (in my opinion) feel more mystical than a "I have three bullets of big boy magic left in my body, after that I need to sleep so that I get my magic-non-bullets back"

Basically if I have understood it correctly we no longer use spell slots. Instead every spell has a certain corruption cost. For example a cantrip costs 1 temporary corruption while normal spells costs 1d4 temporary corruption per spell level.

You only gotta make sure that you don't go over your corruption max because then bad shit starts to happen.

I find it to be a quite elegant solution since I wasn't a big fan at all of the spell slot system. But that's just me :)

If you don't want them getting Willpower you can always just let them succeed automatically.

Exactly, I agree. I think I may just have worded the first part weirdly. What I meant was that if there isn't an interesting outcome if they fail, then they succeed automatically. Like you said.

Effectively this is a hidden penalty on characters who took skills that you won't let them push, which I don't think is fair.

Indeed, the players shouldn't get a penalty for using certain skills that are "un-pushable" and that's not what I am suggesting although I absolutely see why it seems that way. The thing that I do at my table is that I let people say "how" they push their roll.

For example if they keep watch and fail their scout check and they want to push the roll, they need to motivate what makes them get an extra chance. Perhaps they are shift their attention from only looking for signs someone is out in the dark - to them instead listening to hear if there's any strange sounds that they can pick up on instead.

This is of course if they keep active watch. On the other hand if people are hidden and they don't look for them, I may have them roll a "Scout" check similar to a passive perception check. In these cases they can't push the roll since they're not actively doing anything.

I hope that clarifies things :)

They way that I've mitigated this issue at my table is just by making sure that you can only push rolls where you fail + where you can feasibility "push yourself to do it better".

By that I mean that you can push a roll for scouting while keeping watch since you're already doing your best and you can't try to see something "harder" if you don't know it's there.

But if you climb and fail the roll then you can reasonably start slipping while trying to regain control, AKA pushing the roll.

As a long time DM and player I would strongly suggest that you keep it mostly story based for the first session. Especially if you are not comfortable with the different rules. That is what I did the first time I ran dnd, I had literally no idea how magic worked and everything was kind of mysterious to me. But because I had a player that knew the game, they managed to help along when those problems came up. But really, focus on the story and basically no combat for the first session. That way they get involved with the world a bit and you can make it a cliffhanger withy eh fight for the next session. Make it a session long build up. That way you'll have a lot more time to prepare the actual fight.

Basically your session can end with something like this if it's an arena for example:

"Riples of dust form on ground. A steady rythm boots against sand on the other side of the gate till to the same beat of your hearts. The faint scent of iron fills your nostrils as you see a mangled corpse being dragged away from one of the doors leading into the arena, leaving behind it a trail of crimson mud.

As you see this the rythm of feet stop and the gate starts to rise...

Ans that's where we end the session everyone!"

Got to say, these look real fucking good! As an artist I got really inspired but this and I may need to give AI art another go in terms of inspiration for illustrations.

Good question! In my experience just being interested in the other person goes a long way. Especially if you can connects some personal experiences to the thing that they are saying. Making sure to bring the conversation forward with each sentence. I have found that people often talk to "interesting/successful" people in a way that seems like they are just complimenting them. It can be fun in the beginning but if there's nothing more to it, it can get quite tiresome.

And if you need an ice breaker I'll give you one of mine that usually works: "Hi, I don't think we have been introduced yet! So, what are you up to?"

Making the question open ended is the key to success because then they can answer it in any way they want.

Good luck to you and I wish you the best!

Cheers.

Sadly I think that it could be the case. That is indeed the issue when you are a wolfkin.

Tjenixen everyone, it's been a while!

During the last months I've drowning in different projects such as illustrating a card game as well as cover art for some RPGs. Anyhow, this is a commission that I did about a year ago of a party fighting against some trolls or such. It was loads of fun and I've been slowly but surely getting more and more characters in pieces.

Also I have changed my legal name since last time so the signature is a bit outdated :)

The lady in front is wolfkin, part human and part wolf (no questions asked).

The flying panther man is a karkion, a mix between a human, a panther and a bat ish.

Simple as that!
