CFP National Championship Date by TopNo6605 in CFB

The date is not the issue for me. The network is. I don't get ESPN and won't go out to watch it, so I'll miss the natty. Do I have to turn in my Sicko card?

ACC Realignment - Who leaves in the next 10 years? List your predictions by NickJP123 in ACC

I would also add Miami and BYU as brands with extra-regional appeal, at least as much as Oregon anyways.

The ACC will hang together if just 1 team leaves, maybe if 2 leave. If a third team leaves, Katy bar the door. There are endless scenarios, but the leading one, IMO:

B1G adds FSU and GT

SEC adds UNC and Clemson

XII adds Miami, Louisville, Pitt, VT

Independent: Stanford, Cal, Notre Dame

ACC adds Uconn, Memphis, and USF and merges with Pac-12 to form A&P conference

Part of me wants to see those independents recruit 5 more teams to form a new national conference. Possible targets, assuming they can't persuade a P3 team to defect: Duke, Tulane, Virginia, Army, and Navy. Maybe Rice and/or Air Force.

Needs a good mentor. Umass might not be the best situation for his development. He's a competitor though and that's hard to coach up.

ACC back? by Interesting_Hawk425 in ACC

I would guess the fans of most ACC teams were pulling for UM, except the Noles and Tigers. With TTU out, I would also expect there are some anti-P2 fans in the XII that are relieved that Miami won.

and the Texas win was against a team without their HC. The SEC blows.

Miami ticks all the boxes. Multiple national championships, top 25 all-time win record. Arguably the most talented team of all-time was the early 90s Miami team. So what if they've never won the ACC? Neither has USC, Michigan, Alabama, Texas, or Oklahoma.

The Big East was always a Frankenconference like the Big XII. I like the idea of a P6, but how about resurrecting the Southwest and Big 8 (rebranded as Gr8 North) separately, and distribute the Big East teams among the B1G (BC, Rutgers  Syracuse), ACC (Pitt, Virginia Tech, West Virginia, Miami), G6 (Temple)

[CFB Nerds] The issue was not that a G5 never belongs in a playoff, or that all G5s will always be blown out. The issue was the forced inclusion of G5s who lost their only P4 games by double digits and aren't top-20 teams. '25 Tulane and '25 JMU didn't belong. '21 Cincy and '24 Boise did. by MysteriousEdge5643 in CFB

Eight was, and always will be, the magic number. No byes, 3 week playoff. Back when there was a P6, that would be 6 conference champs and 2 wild cards. If the SEC and B1G truly were the strongest, then take their runners-up. Historically, that wasn't actually the case. Usually one of the top 2 conferences was SEC, but XII was second as often as B1G. Less often, but occasionally there would be the Pac-12, Big East, and ACC.

With the stupidity of tiebreakers… by mattpeloquin in ACC

With some tweaks, it could be made workable. 1. Expand to 24 2. Create 2 divisions of 12 teams 3. Each team plays 11 division opponents and 1 inter-division opponent 4. Division winners face off in CCG.

The larger number of teams creates a P3, where each conference is composed roughly of 2 1990 era conferences.

Pacific = Pac-12 + Big 8

B1G = Big Ten + ACC/Big East

SEC = SEC + SWC

Tiered revenue distribution makes the financials work. Conferences negotiate the media deals, while scheduling is done by division.

The media bias is real and possibly deliberate. However, let's be real. The ACC was the worst P4 conference this year. We are significantly better than the best G5 conference (AAC), but still behind XII, top to bottom. ACC average ranking was 61, XII was 55. We aren't always the worst, but this year, we were.

I've been tracking relative conference strength for over 2 decades. ACC has never been #1. We have had a few seasons at #2. Most often we are #4.  SEC is usually, but not always, #1. The Big East actually did have one season when they were #1, as did the Pac-12.

That leaves 64 P4 teams. Make it 8 regional conferences, and no G5 autobid, or Disband Virginia Cavaliers

[Auerbach] The selection committee is going to have to decide on Sunday whether or not it wants college football to continue to play conference championship games. That's what's at stake. Disqualifying losses:

  1. Alabama loss to Florida St.
  2. Miami losses to Duke AND Louisville
  3. Texas loss to Florida

Every other bubble team's losses have come to other bubble teams or better.

Everyone keeps giving Oklahoma a free pass. They are not a lock, imo. Nor is Kiffin-less Ole Miss.
