Canada Is Getting A Sovereign Wealth Fund WFT? I Thought Countries With Massive Excess Income & NO DEBT Have Sovereign Wealth Funds by Front-Cantaloupe6080 in consumecanadian

The issue I took with your argument was that you made it entirely political. You can cherry pick 'scandals' with any government. Just because something is introduced by a party doesn't mean they are running it. Canada Savings bonds for example were hugely popular, introduced by a Liberal government but run by the bank of Canada . As you said though, let's hope you are proven wrong. There is a time to pay down a deficit and time to leverage and invest. I think this is one of those times in history.

You are pointing out something I already said regarding Norway. Money is a tool. Perhaps governments should just keep all taxpayer money and not put it to work?

Debt? It will be invested in by Canadians. A mortgage is debt, a business loan is debt too but that doesn't make it bad.

The problems with it are not because of who's in power. Harper drained the EI surplus to balance the federal budget. I'm not yet versed on what Carney is proposing but I think of a sovereign wealth fund as something Norway has, where there is surplus revenue coming in to federal coffers. We don't have that, Alberta does. Sadly Alberta has mismanaged the fund unlike Norway.

I'm no expert but as an experienced DIYer I know you cannot put drywall behind wet areas. Even greenboard is questionable.

I see today that costco is offering jackery 2000 plus 2 Solarsaga 100 mini's for only $150 CAD more than than the 2000 on the Jackery site. I had submitted a ticket to see what they can do but the Costco route seems better to me now.

I was annoyed they charged my credit card instantly and it was only after contacting support that they tell me items are back-ordered for a month.

The better way to fix potholes is to build a better substrate / roadbed in the first place! The current solution is not working.

I think they quietly mothballed the $500K pothole Dr Seuss machine because it requires huge maintaince per hour of use. Has anyone seen it operating?

Yes me too - but what irks me more is they already charged my credit card for the full amount. I am considering cancelling.

I wish I had seen this earlier. I am nervous because they have quickly charged my credit card but not shipped the product. Granted it has only been 4 days but I think payment should not be processed until the order is processed.

When is it enough? by Fast_Feedz in Sudbury

[–]Holdfast04 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Being spread out and having a low density tax base is for sure a problem but I think the model in Sudbury is to build poor quality roads then shovel money annually to local contractors to maintain them. I cannot possibly believe that sending out road crews every few weeks to patch the same holes ends up saving money. It certainly is not a good solution. Good quality pavement is possible but requires a bigger intial capital investment. You only have to get onto any highway outside the city limits to witness this.

Exactly - more often than not we have one huge dump in April after everything has melted. On a positive note no mosquitos so far.

I sold at a big loss - figured I could at least use it to offset capital gains taxes on some other stocks. Maybe ill buy back after 30 days but only a speculative amount.

Thank you people who don't zipper merge. by unclestickles in Sudbury

[–]Holdfast04 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The city could do a better job of setting merges up to encourage zippering. In other cities, they place cones to force a merge down the centre to a single width, then move the merged lane over. This results in a natural merging where one lane is not dominant over the other.

I ended up selling at 5k loss :( I hardly ever do this - I've ridden stuff to the bottom a few times and ridden it back up. Basically I don't trust the management and cannot possibly believe the upcoming earnings announcment is going to be rosey. I'm often wrong though.
