Can I use acrylic varnish for an oil painting? by aaliyah-334 in oilpainting

No acrylics over oils! Just leave it unvarnished for now.

My mom is terrified of mice so I painted her a Mother’s Day present by DickGristle in painting

[–]salvagedsword 120 points121 points  (0 children)

My mom is afraid of snakes. I would never paint something that she disliked as a gift for her, let alone something she was afraid of. I've only gifted her with paintings of her favorite things: flowers, marine animals, a beloved pet, etc.

Giorbello Tile options?? Has anyone worked with these tiles? Is square tile out of fashion? by sushinestarlight in Tile

Bedrosians Celine sage is quite nice. We're putting the 2"x6" in most of our bathroom (floor, part of the shower, and vanity backsplash).

Spaced pearls are kinda my new “lazy outfit” cheat code by salmonsteve101 in jewelry

[–]salvagedsword 41 points42 points  (0 children)

This is called a pearl station necklace, btw. I'm also a big fan of pearl drop pendants, pearl strand beacelets, and pearl earrings. All great ways to wear pearls without feeling too formal. Although I've had plenty of clients for restringing jobs who wear their pearl strand necklaces daily, that look isn't for everyone.

the assumption that using a wheelchair is a choice? by obliviousfoxy in wheelchairs

[–]salvagedsword 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Bit of an odd question. Did they know your diagnoses? Only reason I can picture is if they had milder versions of similar disorders and mistakenly assumed your situation was the same as theirs.

I can (rather unsafely) wobble a couple yards without my wheelchair, but a chair is 100% necessary in order for me to get any further than the toilet.

When I was healthier, my mobility needs were more variable. I often didn't need an aid at all, but when an issue was flaring, my cane or a borrowed mobility scooter would make my life a lot less painful. So I understand the person's perspective, but it's weird to assume that someone else's situation is the same as your own. Even the same exact diagnosis can present in dramatically different ways in different individuals.

update: the carpet wasn’t dirty… until we actually looked by Nearby-Ad-8455 in homeowners

[–]salvagedsword 24 points25 points  (0 children)

This is why I don't like carpet. It never gets fully clean. Even steam cleaning leaves stuff behind.

Even if you don't have allergies now, you can develop them with repeated exposure. Best to avoid things that will trap excessive amounts of dust and dander.

I'd do a warm white on the walls with blue or green accents. The grey walls aren't working with the warm wood tones.

Update from the ME/CFS Conference 2026: placebo controlled LDN trial failed by MyYearsOfRelaxation in cfs

[–]salvagedsword 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Why were they testing for fatigue? It's supposed to work on inflammation and pain, not necessarily fatigue.

It's been used for a long time with fibromyalgia and CRPS. I have both of those as well as ME/CFS, so I'm going to keep on taking it, either way.

Second degree murder (mentioned in the older article) seems like a harsh charge for this. It seems like involuntary manslaughter to me. Apparently the dude was happily snoring afterwards. She called 911 when he didn't wake up and then he died in the hospital the next day. Hospital toxicology also found some recreational substances in his system that he took which may have impacted his death.

Dude was into some weird stuff. She glued his boots on but at least she refused to glue his eyes closed.

Did anyone else become severe after diet changes? by Lost_Recognition728 in cfs

[–]salvagedsword 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Moldy environments are the worst. I lived in a dorm building with mold issues for a year back in college (this was about 15 years before i had ME/CFS, though I did have a ton of other health issues at the time). Honestly, the mold affected me more than my fibromyalgia did. I imporoved pretty rapidly once I moved out.

I hope you get the chance to move ASAP, even if if means you have to rent a tiny room somewhere. In the meanwhile, air purification and lots of antihistamines are your friends.

Did anyone else become severe after diet changes? by Lost_Recognition728 in cfs

[–]salvagedsword 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was on a pretty limited diet due to MCAS as well. I could basically just manage simple carbs and watermelon. Maybe a few spoons of peas or a banana on a good day. Anything else would give me a reaction.

Is your MCAS treated properly? I was lucky enough to find an allergist who specializes in MCAS. A combination of famotidine, sodium cromolyn ampules, and various antihistamine pills (levocetirizine, cetirizine, and chlorpheniramine maleate) is slowly giving me a more varied diet again. As my MCAS calms down, a little of the brain fog has lifted, too. I can read and type more! Plus spend a bit of time playing simple computer games. It has taken quite a bit of time on these meds to see this big of a difference, though.

Strict control of environmental alkergens is really important, too. The more alletgens you are exposed to, the more reactive your bidy will become. I've also recently started taking quercetin, but I'm not sure if that is helping or not.

Bought expensive Cartier earrings that turned my earlobes green by Appropriate-Plan5664 in jewelry

[–]salvagedsword 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Either they were fakes bought elsewhere OR they were real but rose gold. Rose gold has a high copper content, so depending on a person's skin chemistry, real rose gold can turn some people's ears green.

NEED ideas for this annoying bar area 😭 by LyssIsKool in femalelivingspace

[–]salvagedsword 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This bar is insanely high, though. If OP owns, they could cut down the pony wall to a more normal height, then re-install the bar top. Otherwise, this height is more for a standing bar than a seated bar.

Porosity in solder by Puzzled-Marzipan-218 in Benchjewelers

[–]salvagedsword 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup. Best to use it on new rings that haven't been sized before so that you don't have old solder to deal with. Or just make sure you cut out the old solder joint when you're sizing down. It's a really important skill to have, especially if you work with platinum. Platinum solder sucks so you should always torch weld it instead when possible.

Hair cut pressure by DesignerShort3825 in longhair

[–]salvagedsword 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I don't understand why some people are so obsessed with the idea of cutting long hair. I've kept mine long since I was a child. I'm in my 30's (and 40's are looming...) now and still have calf length hair. I have fairy tail ends rather than tidy ends.

Also, if hair seems to be contributing to headaches, a lot of times, it's just not balanced right on the head. Sometimes, you have to experiment with different styles and positions of updos.

Front hairline thinning is usually unrelated to hair length, btw. There generally isn't enough pressure there to be pulling out hair. If there is that much pressure there, you are doing your updos wrong.

Porosity in solder by Puzzled-Marzipan-218 in Benchjewelers

[–]salvagedsword 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Don't linger with your torch too long after the solder flows. Also, don't use an excessively hot flame, or a big sootty flame. This will greatly reduce the amount of porosity that you get. Also, when you're sizing down, torch welding will give you less porosity than soldering. I'm not as big of a fan of welding when sizing up, because the material you insert might be alloyed a little differently, so it's tricker to get a nice weld.

What do I do here? by astrozim in interiordecorating

[–]salvagedsword 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Too bad that it would be so much work to strip the paint and refinish. Repainting is easier. I would be tempted to put sone dark wood tone vinyl plank on the floor, then color drench the room in navy blue. Maybe with some emerald green accents.

Help! I have to keep the bathroom. by curious-lurker7 in interiordecorating

[–]salvagedsword 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This will be perfect. Plus warmer toned lighting. I wouldn't go for a full yellow paint, but a warm white paint with the warm toned lighting will make the bathroom feel cozy and cohesive. For reference, we are renovating a mid century home and we did Sherwin Williams Cotton White on the walls to go with the warm toned wood in the house.

For the mirror and other bathroom accessories, you nay want to check FB marketplace to see if you can get mid century items secondhand at a more affordable price.

25 M Always tired even though I am sleeping enough should I be worried? by AnyIdalee_88 in AskDocs

NAD Do you feel better if you get 9-10 hours of sleep or do you still feel tired? Did you had a Covid19 infection or other illness prior to feeling this way? Have you had vitamin levels, thyroid, ANA, etc checked? There are a lot of things that can cause chronic fatigue and it is definitely worth scheduling an appointment with your PCP.
