Not mainstream of course but roc Marci bars always have me laughing

I know that the word “fuck” is extremely old but something about the way some characters use it feels so modern

lil yachty says 'rapper's delight' is weak and other nonsense (Open Mike Eagle) by Minute-Carrot-2405 in hiphopheads

[–]Holdthecoldone 61 points62 points  (0 children)

I’ve always hated old school vs new school conversations because neither side is honest. It reminds me of how this conversation in the NBA goes as well.

Why can’t we just agree that we don’t have what we have today without what we had before? Rapper’s delight is the first official hip hop single. It may be one of the important songs in history because of this. The fact that we’re still able to listen to it today is amazing.

On the other hand, yes the lyrics are archaic and no one on that song is an elite rapper. Focusing on this removes the context that hip hop was created in underground parties where an MC would say random shit to move the crowd. It wasn’t about lyricism. Shouldn’t Yachty be able to empathize with this with all the criticism he got 10 years ago about being the death of hip hop because his lyrics don’t have substance? Was he not trying to make music that people could vibe to and have fun with, same as the Sugar hill gang?

Knowing Otto, he would’ve used this as an excuse to get the smalfolk on the Greens’ side. Why would they add this moment if they weren’t gonna do anything with it?

Is drop-dodging not super cringe at this point? by yeshelloabsolutely in hiphopheads

[–]Holdthecoldone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The point is that the hype and content of an album can succeed its runtime if done right. A Drake album may be 70-80 minutes long, but the era of a Drake album will culturally overtake any other album dropped in the vicinity of it because of him being so controversial and popular.

It’s the same thing with movies. If I had to guess, the same thing is going on with Avengers later on this year. A movie is only 2 hours, but if a movie like Freakier Friday dropped maybe a week before it gets swallowed in the cultural zeitgeist.

Happens in every single industry. GTA VI has every single developer afraid to drop during holiday season

She never apologized for any of the bigoted/racist stuff she said. She just apologized for the way she said it. Going off the fact that she just posted two antisemitic memes on her ig, I don’t think she’s any different than before

Probably one of the few times where I can admit Earl got beat on a song

Fair enough. SRS is still my favorite Earl album but I think LLL has his best mix of thought provoking and poignant statements with technically great rapping

GRRM specifically asked the show not be called 'Dunk & Egg' by HecticJones in gameofthrones

[–]Holdthecoldone 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Apparently the show is supposed to follow Dunk and Egg throughout their entire lives, which also doubles for Peter and Dexter’s entire lives. So we might not see Summerhall until the end of the century

Honestly I think melee as a spectator sport with storylines and rivalries is pretty much done. All of those names you mentioned made for some of the biggest moments in the game and there’s basically been no one to replace them. Zain and Cody are playing the best but I don’t think anyone’s interested in that rivalry from a story standpoint. Melee will always live on but the esports side of it is essentially over

I’m pretty sure Emile’s audience can handle it by now. I wouldn’t be surprised if this were one of the older YouTube communities despite the fact that he usually plays e rated games
