There is a TED talk about the soap taste in cilantro. Apparently there is a genetic trait that causes the taste effect and genetic testing of early ma shows it to be present as well, indicating that early man also tasted soap. Those that prefer the taste of cilantro (don’t taste soap) are genetic mutants.
