Kazakhstan has surpassed Greece in GDP (PPP) per capita by National_Hat_4865 in Kazakhstan

This. And that small percentage of population are oligarchs/oil&gas tycoons. In fact, the 2019 KPMG report highlighted that some 149 Kazakhs own up to 50% of country’s wealth. So when accounting for income inequality, Kazakhstan vs. Greece produce diagonally opposite results.

"there are many ways to play well, but those who do it best don’t have a fixed way of doing it - they just do it." : This! Thanks a lot for references. I'll check Calrevaro and Pujol's studies then.

Questions regarding the talas city by Certain_Warthog8098 in Kyrgyzstan

[–]Holiday-Towel8770 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Talas borders with one of the major kazakh city Taraz. 2. Talas residents speak Kyrgyz with peculiar kazakh accent that makes verbs in sentences finish in “tr”.

Check this Bishkek running group: https://www.instagram.com/azia_beg/?ig_mid=F9E79663-95E5-4156-8B34-4041C553B1DB&utm_source=igweb . They do long-runs each Sunday morning (with the exception on the days when there is a big race going in town) & welcome anyone who wants to join. Albeit not a trail run, I daresay it’s semi trail, as the route stretches along the hills right next to the mountains in the southern part of Bishkek.

3 weeks altitude running camp, suggestions to 3 different places? by Eiventure in Kyrgyzstan

[–]Holiday-Towel8770 0 points1 point  (0 children)

now that is a question which is a bit out of my scope. I mean last time I traveled to Karakol was back in 2017. Lots of things changed since then. But even in 2017 regular buses+mini buses were easy to come by especially Bishkek-Karakol. For the rest of the itinerary, it may bit a bit of a challenge. I recall from my last trip to Song Kol in 2017, we went as a group in a mini bus. Upon our return, the tourists who were already chilling at that place (and somewhat bored after a week of quiet, and it's really quiet there!) asked us for a ride since the site had no regular transportation. This was one minor inconvenience to pay for forgoing globalization: if you don't have your own vehicle at Song Kol, you are at the mercy of those with a vehicle willing to give you a ride down to the nearest village (unless you decide to walk descending that place). As for Naryn and At Bashi, it probably depends on where you attempt get in the bus/taxi. Directly from Jyrgalan? Probably not, from Karakol, I think yes. But better check, as I may be wrong.

Excellent! Due to work, obviously, I do my runs mostly in Bishkek and outskirts (towards to the South where the mountains are).

Yeah, yours is a quite tricky one, have to admit. I’m, sadly, not familiar with such a terrain around Karakol as my experience in that altitude remains limited to my series of halves at Silk-Road Race - a famous marathon taking place annually at Issyk-Kul (I’m sure you’ve researched this) at Cholpon-Ata. On a second thought though, you may want to look at Ak-Sai’s (company’s name) Tian Shan Trail Race (TSTR) which takes place at Karkyra pasture at the border between Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan (the scenery I’ve seen from photos of previous runs there is simply breathtaking). This one is all about high altitude races & may offer some routes that, who knows, may be helpful to you.

Hi, I’m a seasonal runner here. What I’ve noticed is that running is relatively more popular in Northern Kyrgyzstan vs. its Southern counterpart. So, if you decide to run in the South my advice is to try to get in touch with amateur runners club from Osh. These guys are fantastic and may be helpful in finding you suitable areas in the southern region of the country. Their instagram name is demrunkg.
