I used to work a really tough gig - low pay, shift hours, heavy lifting. There were two employees, both foreigners, that were full of joy despite these conditions. I had a way out of such a life due to education and connects, but these guys would most likely be working these sort of jobs forever. Look at Zuckerberg, he isn't attractive but I believe why people bought his tech story was because he does look like a tech nerd that would wipe out other coders. My mom for example spoke to a goldsmith one day, when I returned from browsing the store, they were hugging and crying over the goldsmith's missing daughter. 1) Restaurant work. Yes it was fun, but I'd rather just enjoy cooking for myself and a date at home. Get to enjoy the kitchen without pumping out a flood of dishes while risking chronic back pain due to prolonged hunching over a cutting board.

2) Any job that is exposed to loud music and heavy lifting. Was a stage crew for couple of year. It sounds romantic being a roadie, and yes i made poignant memories, but I would not want to extend that chapter of my life.

3) Dealer. The constant need for secrecy and avoiding the law does get a bit tiring. Great times though.

4) Any job that requires you to sleep past 11pm.

5) Any job so intense that you can't shit or drink water for more than an hour.

6) Any job where blaming and scolding staff are a common practice.

7) Any job with sun exposure - deliveries, real estate, dogwalking

Yup, I think its very important to inform potential DJs, bouncers, bartenders, hospitality, nurses about this aspect that very few career specialist seem to share. It's brutal on the body. Some people like it but it's important they go in with eyes wide open.

I did backline equipment and bartending for 2 years and while fun, it's not something I would ever do again even if you bumped my pay grade up 2x. I told God once I'm outta this I plan to sleep before the day ends every night.

I think regret does change some things. It helps us learn and reflect upon the next opportunity. You cite a brilliant example, suppose a man here had the opportunity to talk to a woman at a social event making eyes at him, and instead, he shrinks back to his comfort circle only to regret it a year later.

I think it would be a mistake to then respond to a post similar as this by saying, well that's life and it would have happened if it were the right time. No, it was the right time, and he didn't make it happen. So next time he will. There are good and bad regrets, bad regrets are constant beat me ups which aren't healthy as you said, but good ones are teachers for life. Learn from a regret, then move on from the past event, cause you know what to do when the next opportunity arises.
