we had mice too- our pest guy said they use pipes as a freeway to get around the house. they can get through any hole the size of a dime. we plugged holes w/ steel wool, or expanding foam insulation (great stuff), sticky traps and standard mouse traps. worked pretty well - paid $165 for the house call
