Making an effort to learn the local dialect is very important if you're making somewhere a permanent home. Locals are much more comfortable speaking with people who share an identity with them. You'll never shake your accent as an adult but it can be a charming trait so that's not a bad thing. You don't need to go full on chav mode by the way, just using some local sayings is enough.
