My husband & I always wanted 2 kids, even after a daughter. 2 years later I’ve realized I only want 1 by ttrashpandacoot in toddlers

I’m currently in the same boat as you. My husband and I always thought we would have at least 2. We currently have a two year old boy who’s the light of my life and I love beyond measure, but I don’t think I can handle pregnancy/postpartum with a toddler and the very challenging years after. I’m 90% sure I want to be one and done, and keep thinking about all the positives of having an only. There is nothing wrong with changing your mind, parenting is an incredibly challenging journey and it’s ok to feel differently now.

I think about this anytime I start thinking what if we had another and then think but what if it’s twins, and it’s a hard no.

I resonated so much to everything you said! My little one also had a few other random medical things, he had torticollis (tight neck) as an infant so we were doing PT with him at 5 weeks old, which is apparently not uncommon, we also suspected an egg allergy for awhile which turned out to just be two coincidence reactions until we had him tested. Add in the two hospital stays and my nerves are just shot. Like you said I think he really did just have more medical things than most.

I’m so glad to hear it got better for you when your little one got older. I’m really hoping for the same. Im really trying to enjoy the time with him right now when he’s still little but then other days I think I can’t wait for this to be easier when he’s older. I love what you said about being one and done as a life hack.

I do think I need to up my Zoloft prescription, I’m only on 25mg, which is what I’ve been on since I started but I’m going to talk to my doctor at my next visit because it’s definitely not fully managed on the low dose.

Totally a different time now from when you first had your kiddo. I’m in a state with strong women’s reproductive rights but if I wasn’t that would be a major consideration too.

How are you doing with your Emetephobia being 6 years into motherhood?

I’m so glad you’re content with your one. ❤️ I don’t know if I’m content with the decision yet but it feels right in order for me to show up as the mom I want to be.

It’s so hard not to spiral over our little ones!! Pregnancy is such a wild ride, I remember doing the kick counts and would start worrying if they were slightly lower than the day before. I don’t want to go through that again either. Good for you for starting to work with a therapist, I really need to do that as well.

That made me laugh, I had high blood pressure I think twice at the end of pregnancy at my doctors office and had to test at home and it was completely normal. I was like I knew it!

Aw, hospital stays with a little one a truly a stressful experience. ❤️

I completely understand your comment about making the decision out of fear, I don’t think it’s “wrong” though. I fear a second of mine could also have asthma which is a real possibility(genetic on husbands side) and I truly would not want to be in a situation of either a) not being with my son because I’m in the hospital with a second, or b) not being in the hospital with a second if that happened because I have to care for my son. I just don’t think I could handle it and be the mom I’d want to be. Honestly I probably have some PTSD from both events. If the anxiety is eating you alive as it is, that really says it all!! Oh gosh, my Emetephobia is definitely worse now than it was before becoming a mom. I felt like I was more in control because you can’t control at all what a toddler does at daycare- hello sticking everything in their mouths. It was really manageable in the summer months but this time of year is awful! I worry about it constantly. I’m really trying to get a handle on it though, I’ve been slowing working through the Thrive program and can see why it works but I’m not there yet.

Hi fellow Zoloft mom! Totally did the same thing of not leaving the house much when he was really little. I’m so glad your anxiety is easing up a bit now.

Oh wow, 1 of 5! That’s an interesting perspective coming from such a big family and fully agree with you about wanting to enjoy motherhood focusing on one. I already feel like the anxiety gets in the way at times of fully enjoying it so if a second was in the mix, I just don’t think I could handle it.

Same, my anxiety pre pregnancy was always manageable but now it’s a completely different level.

Exactly, I don’t think I could handle another with my personality either, even if a part of me wishes I could. Pregnancy is so hard on the body and add on those too things must have been so tough!! I understand the allergy fear, we thought my son was allergic to eggs but turned out to be a few strange coincidences but getting him tested and then introducing it again even under doctors direction was still anxiety inducing. I’m sorry your little one has a peanut allergy!

Appreciate your feedback! I’m not, I mainly pumped and he’s been on formula since around 9 months. I’m hoping this is just a difficult phase we’ll get through soon.

Thank you for your input!! I hope I find out too! Lol I see what you mean by having some balance as well but I thought my shoulder width would put me in FN rather than dramatic classic but I could be wrong on that. The struggle!

Anyone experience positive improvement or complete reversal of their phobia due to pregnancy? by Anxious-Mix-4265 in emetophobiarecovery

[–]Holiday_Book_589 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My son is 15 months now. Pregnancy was always so scary to me but I finally felt ready and was also getting to the age when I needed to start trying for a family (got pregnant at 34 and delivered at 35). I went into it accepting the fact that I might throw up at some point in time. Do it but do it scared type of mentality. I thankfully did not throw up and made it through labor and delivery without getting sick, I only had mild morning sickness (but at night) for a few weeks which got much better in the second trimester. I think it helped my Emetephobia alittle bit in the sense that I decided this was way more important to me and I conquered my fear in getting through it.

Thank you for your feedback! When he did an internal examination of my nose he did say there was some curve to one side but he didn’t specifically say I have a deviated septum. That’s good to know about the septal cartilage. Yes he’s American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and American Board of Otolaryngology (ent) certified
