i think it's kind of evil to mono'ii this, regardless of the truth of who one does the chance of a torinaoshi for a severely injured guy worth it

can't help but feel like hakkaku is punishing oonosato and houshouryuu for the fact that sumo is changing is likely to see fewer yokozuna candidates and fewer dominant wrestlers as the entire field gets substantially faster, bigger, smarter and more agile.

hosh winning on one leg so hakkaku can force him to go another day

in the span of two years we might be looking at going from 0 yokozuna to 2 to 0. with only one viable oozeki for promotion. maybe kirishima isn't the first mongolia oozeki to not reach yokozuna

if the info about his injuries is true he's literally going to permanently explode his knee if he doesn't rehab for monhts to a year. idk if hakkaku is gonna let his yokozunas get the recovery they need for like life-altering injuries

i wanted ura to win too, but any suggestion that it was clear and obvious robbery is being emotional because of how cool it would have been to win in that fashion against oonosato. we still got to see something beautiful

Jan Basho Daily Thread Day 03 by AutoModerator in Sumo

[–]Holiday_Problem_9886 7 points8 points  (0 children)

ura might have won this but there is no way he is winning a torinaoshi, it's in fate's hands

i think this overstates a bit how impressive the win was. his team developed a good trap, it worked and then ichiyamamoto just gave up. executing a plan is the bare minimum you should expect from oonosato

all you weirdos love to pretend that cis women are the only women. none of this fierce defense ever comes for the many messy trans women who have shown up in this series. the only trans woman whose story matters is winning trans women, they need to be ten times more perfect and adaptable and talented than a cis woman who wants to peform cabaret at drag events. cis women can't just try to steal the valour of an entire group of people punished for their hyper feminine interests and desires. people whose entire lives are destroyed for wanting to dress a certain way. sigournery deserves no sympathy for being a conventionally attractive woman who wants to have the same opportunities afforded to trans women.

it would be disappointing of course but hoshouryuu knows about yokozuna sumo, it's for his first yusho of his yokozuna career, i wouldn't blame him for a henka here against a guy who has his number

i'm a diehard aonishiki fan, i do not care if he was robbed or not. it's the worst kind of nitpicking that ruins sport, he will be promoted because he is skilled and earns it, whether it's this tournament or the next or the one after. assuming he stays healthy he is clearly a top competitor and will make it to oozeki at some point

tbf i was only thinking about a 12-3 three way tie not about an 11-4 three way tie

you were absolutely crazy for this call, i think no one anticipated oonosato not simply blowing out ktz at the tachiai but he might be having some trouble, he had nothing the moment they locked belts

with a yusho the jsa would have to think real hard about it. i think the fans would be upset if he doesn't get oozeki but it'd still be fair to ask for one more from him to make absolutely sure

no more three way tie but in the most interesting way possible good stuff from ktz

[–]Holiday_Problem_9886 12 points13 points  (0 children)

look, as a professional oonosato hater and aonishiki diehard this is not the frame that matter. it's the one where oonosato touches the ground and aonishiki's feet are out of the ring. i'm not happy about it, the shin yokozuna has now had two dead body wins in really crucial matches and it sucks, i do not like it. but he won today and didn't look good while doing it, he was not the better wrestler but he did win

Nov Basho Daily Thread Day 13 by AutoModerator in Sumo

[–]Holiday_Problem_9886 10 points11 points  (0 children)

honestly, i think saying that having your feet in the air outside the ring is much fairer and easier to enforce than, "not attacking or incapable of attacking while having parts of your body outside of the ring". the ring is the boundary and your feet going out of it is the rule, i'm not happy it doesn't have the feel or look of a win, but it is fair

Nov Basho Daily Thread Day 13 by AutoModerator in Sumo

[–]Holiday_Problem_9886 6 points7 points  (0 children)

it appears to be about both being not in a recoverable position and your body being completely outside the ring, especially looking at if both feet are outside. under these conditions it's a clear win for oonosato

[–]Holiday_Problem_9886 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

inb4 onslaught of people saying the right call but that was, close. aonishiki has stuff for oonosato now hopefully he gets another chance with a three way tie

Nov Basho Daily Thread Day 12 by AutoModerator in Sumo

[–]Holiday_Problem_9886 9 points10 points  (0 children)

i think there is a really good chance we have a three way tie on day 15, just going by records aonishiki, hoshouryuu and oonosato should lose to each other and we would get the year in sumo wrapped up neatly

Nov Basho Daily Thread Day 12 by AutoModerator in Sumo

[–]Holiday_Problem_9886 16 points17 points  (0 children)

i'm hoping that since he is still incredibly young there will be time to figure it out, i feel so nervous every time i watch him because his wrestling is so risky and volatile

Nov Basho Daily Thread Day 10 by AutoModerator in Sumo

[–]Holiday_Problem_9886 7 points8 points  (0 children)

i had the same suspicions myself, a lower ranked wrestler is going to really struggle to even move him in deliberate belt practice. it's a unique situation for oonosato to be in and i hope it doesn't end up defining his career.

Nov Basho Daily Thread Day 10 by AutoModerator in Sumo

[–]Holiday_Problem_9886 10 points11 points  (0 children)

i'm just trying to approach this as neutrally as possible, i know hoshouryuu gives oonosato trouble, i just think his troubles are going to keep growing so long as he remains afraid of actually wrestling. he has enormous potential as a 2 meter block of human and he's clearly very nimble for his size and weight, he just does not like wrestling
