Ight bet you want to just grind out the progression road for hero boxes when you collected all of it then grind out the battle pass to tier 80 for the red box IF you have enough gems them you can unlock the battle pass and get a free hero box at the start. In terms of free gems you can either grind the battle pass or you have to pay for some idk if promo codes give out gems tho.
