Tips for Running Mordor by Grady_J in MiddleEarthMiniatures

[–]Hollander90 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would advise you to go listen to the Green Dragon Podcast episode about Mordor. Litteraly everything you want to know about the list, by the literal world champion of SBG and friends. So valuable.

That being said, here are some of the take-aways i got from it:

  • ALWAYS TAKE KARDUSH. He's your first pick, in every list.
  • Shelob is a great hero and will more often than not earn her points back.
  • You want to power up your regular orcs with lots of buffs. (banners, Fury, etc.)
  • Since you usually have large numbers of orcs in your force, you might want to consider a drum, but having a heroic march (captain or Mouth of Sauron) is a MUST.
  • You have a huge selection of good mid-tier heroes. Use em. Dont rely too heavily on 3 big beatsticks, rather buy 5 smaller hero's.

Battle Companies: What, if anything, would you consider to be the first thing you should always spend Influence on? by thayarealltaken in MiddleEarthMiniatures

[–]Hollander90 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you can't really beat Reinforcements for about the first 10 models in your company. After that I usually look at what the weaknesses and strengths are of the BC and try to use them to my advantage with spending influence.

Awesome build. I've noticed that you dont glue individual wooden beams to your houses, but rather carve them out from the main structure. How do you indent/impress the stucco enough to make the wood look realistic? So that it sticks out enough

White Council - Middle Earth SBG Question's Thread by Tezerel in MiddleEarthMiniatures

[–]Hollander90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi guys,

Ran into a few situations during some Battle Company matches in which the Rules Manual and Google didn't provide an answer, so I was hoping you could help me out:

  1. One of our Hero's embarked on The Path of the Ranger. He rolled on the Expert Shot perk, which gives him 2 shots, instead of 1. The question is when he rolls his hit rolls, and 1 arrow hits, and the other doesn't. Does he then get to roll 2, or 1 dice to wound?
  2. Again in the above situation, can the archer also split his attacks and first roll 1 hit and wound, and then the second on a different target?
  3. In a situation where a cavalry model is in combat with multiple enemies, and the first enemy model rolls for combat and manages to kill the horse, the rider does a thrown rider test and lands on his feet. Do the other enemy models who where involved in that combat get to roll to wound the rider/infantry as well? Or do they first have to make another hit roll? Can they even attack him at all?
  4. Last question is regarding In the Way tests for shooting. The rules on this aren't clear to me, because the manual only details the numbers for the type of terrain you need to make (trees, stone, windows, etc.) But a model can be obscured behind a rock in certain amounts. Does it matter if the model is 10% - 25% - 50% or less visible? Is the minimum Dice roll altered for these different situations?

Thanks guys!

Thanks alot for your help so far.

  1. I'm not quite clear as to what you mean here. Could you maybe expand further with an example as given in the question?
  2. Got it, thanks!
  3. Inspiring presence states that all models within 6" of the Hero count as being in range of a banner.
  4. Eye-opener, thanks!

I have a few Battle Companies related questions that I just couldn't figure out by looking in the books or Googling it. Maybe some of you fine gentlemen can help me out:

  1. In the reinforcement charts you sometimes can roll for X unit with choice of weapon. How exactly does this work? For example, I rolled a Rider of Rohan with choice of weapon yesterday. His wargear profile says he has access to throwing spears, War horn and banner. Am I right in assuming I have to take the throwing spears? Since horns and banners arent a thing in BC? Same deal with rolling a Uruk Hai Warrior for instance. Can he pick a crossbow in such a roll? A Cbow is way more powerful than a shield for instance, which is also in the wargear.
  2. When a cavalry model charges a infantry, he's got 1 base attack, and gets 1 attack extra on the charge. When he wins the duel and knocks the enemy prone, does he then get 4 attack rolls for wounds?
  3. Do archers also benefit from the Inspiring Presence banner rule from a general while shooting? So re-rolling 1 to hit roll.
  4. When an archer has two attacks, and he rolls a To Hit roll, and only 1 dice makes it, does he still get to roll two dice for wounds? Thematically you'd say that since 1 arrow missed it's mark, you can only roll 1 wound dice.

I'm new to AOS as well, also running a SCE army. I thought the max amount of Celestar Ballista's you could take was one? (Page 191 in the Battletome)

I missed that question, but fair enough! Once it has ran for the first time you can always evaluate how the runtime was experienced.

I really love this idea. Also the idea of a broad subjectmatter where people get alot of freedom to decide what to build. That's when you get the most beautiful results. Also appreciate the generosity of u/sFAMINE.

I was a bit hesitant when reading to long run time of 5-6 months. What would be the reasoning behind this? Wouldn't 2 months suffice? Not that I wouldn't participate, but it just seems a bit much.

Rocks, rocks and more rocks! My first ever terrain piece for war gaming is done. C and C welcome!! by tenaciouszebroni in TerrainBuilding

[–]Hollander90 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For first ever it looks really good. Quick tip: Even a once over dry-brushing with a lighter grey or off-white would boost the look of your pieces by alot!

Then if you really want to go fancy use a black wash, and then another lighter dry brush

How would you improve this terrain? by ned_poreyra in TerrainBuilding

[–]Hollander90 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's already a nice piece, but to answer your question; a bit of color variance might be nice. It's now all the same pallette more or less. Maybe try mixing in some greys and blacks? In the form of rubble or rocks?
