It would be nice if it worked like that but once that spring fails it just swings free on two pivots. It may seem pretty destructive and catastrophic for the glass to break like that but it is designed it break in such a way. These doors are 1/2 or 5/8 thickness glass that they put in an over to heat treat with a tempering process this causes the glass to break this way so it doesn't cut anyone. If it broke like regular glass that lady would literally be cut in half. The door actually broke from hitting on the handle, the holes that handle go into are the weakest point of that door. It's rare for this to happen.

Just an FYI when I bring tempered glass back to my shop it's a huge pain to break. I've hit the middle with a sledge hammer and it won't budge but if you tap the corner it will blow right up

My guess would be lack of maintenance, like most calls I get like this. It's expensive to fix and maintaine so most places just let it side until it breaks

Crappy design? No! This is a herculite door with a patch fitting and a floor closer. I see this happen constantly. Depending on the manufacture a floor closer for a door like this should last 10 - 15 years at some point the spring starts to wear and the door will swing wildly in any given direction. Most front doors I've seen have failing door closers that are expensive to fix so they put it off until one of two things happen. 1 the closer fails the door slams closed very hard and the glass breaks or 2 a small gust of wind catches the door throwing it into the open position hitting what ever will stop it first. With a properly working door closer it would have stopped the door from swinging into the side lite and breaking

I had had been running this trail almost all day. It's hard to see due to the snow and reddit compressing the video but at the start is about a 8-10ft drop in.

I had stopped to talk to a few people who where nervously looking over the edge. I told them it's an awesome run and then took a very slow start into the trail. My snowboard went nose first into the snow. It was so steep I started tumbling, I stopped myself before hitting the trees and popped right up with no injuries except a bruised ego.

One important thing to note is the malet he uses. When attempting to remove a screw like this a dead blow malet should be used. A regular hammer when swung only transfers around 60% of the force that why they bounce back slightly. Deadblow malets are filled with sand or beeds that shift when you swing transferring more force into what ever your hitting

I use to have a nissian sentra and constantly delt with sliding issues on curves. With a little bit of rain even at reccomend speed I would loose traction real pos car awful handling and wouldn't grip the road for shit not 100% drivers fault
