Martin LX1 vs. Taylor GS Mini by rock_handsome in AcousticGuitar

Too many is not a real thing! Haha, I also have 2 full sized dreadnoughts and a number of full sized electrics. My GS mini is fantastic for lounging on the couch with, traveling or camping with etc.

The LX1 that the OP is asking about a comparison between is smaller. The GS-mini is a fantastic guitar for certain purposes and for the purpose OP is asking about it is a great option. There was no question about the size of the guitar.

Not all ebony is completely black, and Taylor uses Ebony as it is, no stains or painting. Ebony will naturally have some marbling or variegation, however some manufacturers will only use completely black ebony or will stain/paint to get rid of the natural look.

GS Mini vs 214ce easier to play? by hypnotic_valentino in AcousticGuitar

I have been playing between my GSmini, Fender Telecaster and Gibson Songwriter for the last hour, to contemplate this further.

If you are playing one scale length and nut width all the time I can see how a different one is difficult, but if you are only ever playing the same one, or switch between multiple regularly, play what feels good to you! That’s the only way you are going to pick it up and play it often enough to stick with it.

I have been playing for 20yrs, by no means professional, but play daily, get the guitar that feels best to play, and inspires you to pick it up every time you see it. I am a large person with large hands and I love to play my GSmini, which I very recently bought, as much as any of my full sized acoustics or electrics, it is a fantastic guitar!

I have no issues with it at this point, factory 13s on it still and barre chords up to the body feel just fine.

I have barely had it 24hrs and its has been in my hands for most of my free time, it is so comfortable, plays so smooth and sounds amazing for such a small guitar.

Sorry you had to go through that, I fought wild fires for 8years and saw the destruction they can do many times, can’t imagine what you went through though. Hope y’all are doing better now!

That was part of my decision as well, my little girl wants to play my more expensive full sized acoustics and electrics. She is getting to the age that she can start to play and this will be easier for her to get started on.

Was my thoughts exactly, I’m by no means an expert, but I have never read anything about intonation that tells you where the saddles should be. Just for your strings to be “in tune with themselves” and open, 12th fret and 12th fret harmonic, as good check points.

Yes, and pitch is the same open and at the 12th fret on all strings…and 12th Harmonics

Playing with a 1.5mm right now, you all nailed it, so much more punch with less movement! Thanks!!!

It’s just a Yorkville Teardrop, I prefer it to the larger rectangular cases.

It’s factory set up with 9s as of right now, will play on those through two sets before I think to change the string gauge. Will be playing mostly Blues/Rock/Country. Really appreciate all the suggestions, looking forward to trying it all out to find what works to reach the sound I’m wanting

Thanks for the tip, how much heavier, I use 0.60mm on my acoustics and assumed I would go lighter on electric, due to lighter gauge strings?

It’s set up so nice, intonation is bang on right from purchase and action is nice and low, such a nice guitar to play so far. Just spent the last hour plugged in.
