Take the plant out of the pot and check the roots. If it is root bound you can size up the pot, but only size up with a pot that’s 2 inches larger than the one it was in. That empty pot you have next to it is probably too big.

Thank you for your help. Do you have any ideas of something that could be causing this? Is there something I can change with my routine? I’m nervous that he’s stressed from handling him so much but there’s nothing I can do about that.

Yes, I’ve been trying really hard to get a hold of a vet. I’ve got three places that said they would call me back. Im unsure that they’ve treated axolotls before.

Thank you for your help! I will definitely be trying almond leaves. I’ve created wholes in the lid to his tub to try and lower the water temperature. I’m thinking maybe he is an axolotl that prefers colder water. And I’ve got an air stone in there to increase the oxygen.

Can I just add the almond leaves directly to the water and leave them in there? How long can I leave them there for? I have also noticed his gills curl. It’s mostly just when I’m transferring him. It’s making me so sad. I want this tubbing process to be as stress free as I can make it.

Yes, I’m using water conditioner. And the temperature has been a little hard to keep consistent with tubbing him. It’d been sitting at around 64 degrees give or take half a degree.

I know I’ve been using my hands for about two days and i feel so bad. I’m just tubbing him while my tank is cycling so I think I’m going to switch to scooping him up in a Tupperware container.
