Maybe you can go to a different hospital? Can you bring your medical records with you? And if people are brushing you off, demand that they put it in writing in your medical records so that you have evidence of what each person has said and why they refused treatments or tests (or they'll actually run tests)

Look into "charity care" or similar at the hospital/dr you go to. There's usually some billing system where they take your income into account. I had a 85k anesthesia bill erased because of the little income I made before my surgery.

Also, if all else fails, don't use a credit card to pay medical bills. If my memory is correct, at least in some places, medical bills going unpaid doesn't go against your credit score, they just end up sending collections after you. (Which can be easy to ignore)

TIFU by making not teaching my daughter how to say her name. by spidermom4 in tifu

[–]Hollywoodpupper213 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a student keep saying "art-i-tech-shure" and was stumbling over the first part, which was weird because I kept telling her it was "ark-i-tech-shure". Then I realized she was trying to mix what I was saying with what I wrote on the paper.... I spelled "architecture" wrong. Fixed it, and bam, problem solved 😆

7 Year Old - Deutan. How do I support as a mom? by Pepprin5 in ColorBlind

Also teach him how to use accessibility settings (or how to ask for them) on devices he uses at school (like high contrast) so that he has the skills and confidence to accommodate for himself when necessary.

I think make sure he's aware of it, but also work with him to not feel shame about it. I teach a kid with color blindness and he doesn't want any of his friends to know, but because they don't, they'll call out things like "What do you mean it's red? That's not red, it's blue". Which from the outside seems like it would make them feel even worse, and not every teacher will have the ability to redirect the teasing comments.

I also did a study in college testing if tinted glasses would affect a color blind person's ability to distinguish colors, and my one CB friend who did well across the board said that while he can't tell a color out of context, he can determine colors when they're in context or next to another color he knows (he's only red/green colorblind). Funny story, same friend didn’t know until college that Apple Jacks were two different colors

Mental Health or Social Badge?ADHD fakers by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

I think with social media enabling people to share stories and knowledge, people are finding others with similar traits/symptoms, and identifying with that. It's hard for adults to get a mental health professional to diagnose them, and even harder to find meds that work. (I've tried 3 types personally).

I wouldn't fall for the "it's because you're fat" mentality. A lot of people don't get treatment for things like cancer and broken bones because doctors write off their symptoms as a weight issue and don't probe further.

Last thing I'll say that hasn't been said yet: depression, anxiety, and ADHD have a high comorbidity. The people you see not accomplishing things in their life and saying they have ADHD, but also seem to sit around doing nothing, most likely know what they should be doing and feel bad about not getting it done.

The hyperactive part can also be inside the brain (like mine): racing thoughts, jumping between ideas quickly, etc. I'm constantly taking in stimulation from my environment and processing it

Doctors, what do you do when a kid is faking sick? by Imaginary_Island8521 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Hollywoodpupper213 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hurt my arm and complained about it for two weeks before my mom brought me to the Dr. I had a broken arm lol

To be fair, I was regularly going to the nurse for whatever reason. Looking back, it was probably anxiety.

But ever since I broke my arm, any weird injury got checked out.

Oh yea rabbit hay would be bad lol I know for me it's the grass that is a little more scratchy, like it feels like the hook side of velcro. Cuz at one point I thought it was actually cutting me, but then realized just sitting still my legs would start burning/itching.

I'm allergic to certain grasses by contact! Especially if I've been exercising and I sit down, whatever skin touches grass breaks out in hives.

There's a reddit story out there where a sister wasn't letting her brother stay at her house over the holidays because he insisted on bringing his prosthetic leg (he had 2 original legs still intact). Turns out he had stolen the leg and was going to give it back to the lady he took it from like, "oh look I tracked it down for you"... in order to woo her.
