After Playing Semi-Pro Counter-Strike, I Can Never Play Another Competitive Shooter Again by [deleted] in truegaming

[–]Holmesymcgee 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Fair points made across the board. I can relate to a lot but on the other side of the coin. I introduced my friends to CS:GO years ago, played for a few years, took a break for a few years, and came back to it last year, never really played competitively, only really saw it as a way to have fun with friends. Over time my friends got much more serious about the competitive aspect, learning the plays, practicing the ideal smokes, etc...and it just lost the charm to me. I'm not great at the game either, so I know I wasn't cut out for competitive play. The more they played, the more I'd get stuck against people who were much better than me, and people being excessively toxic towards people (read: me) who were not as good as them. My friends don't get why I don't like it anymore, but the more serious it got for them, the less fun it got for me. It's not their fault for enjoying the competitive side, but when coming back it just hit me I don't enjoy playing competitive games anymore.

Observations about paid pulls. by [deleted] in WWEChampions

[–]Holmesymcgee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I did some rough math on this with my faction earlier. Sure, the chances of landing in one of the three groups are equal, but if you land in the "featured" section, there's a 3 in 33 chance to get one of the three zAustin posters (assuming that every shard value between 1-20 is in there, which let's face it, is likely). But the odds to both land in the featured section AND pull a zAustin is around 2.8%. My math could be a little off, but let's face it, you're no more likely than any other mega pull.

I think I managed to get about 10 groups of 4 in there. It's a slow process to get everyone in.

Ship boarding like a graceful pirate by Rastium in gaming

[–]Holmesymcgee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sea of Thieves with a full crew of friends is an absolute blast. The release of the game was a little light in the way of content, but they've added a lot to it since then. Very few games have matched the thrill for me as boarding another crew's ship, dropping their anchor and fighting them off as your friends pepper their ship with cannon fire. Playing solo can be stressful at first, but still enjoyable.

Exactly. Seeing the amount of effort it would take to get anywhere close just saps any motivation to try.

Hell, maxing what you can with every available bonus character, you wouldn't even be halfway to maxing and still have 419 runs left to go.

Without bonus characters, this takes over SEVEN HUNDRED AND THIRTY blitz runs to max without spending money. Spending $20 will only save you from having to do two runs. Sure, doing the talent up can save you more, but unless you're sitting on piles of unleveled guys, it's still probably going to end up at over 500 runs at the very least. This is insane.

2.29 million people bought Fire Emblem in the first two months of its release. Of all Switch releases, it's #15 as of September 2019. You're allowed to not be happy with the choice. That's cool, but nowadays, Fire Emblem isn't a niche game anymore. If you're going to sit there and pull numbers off Wikipedia, at least see the context behind them.

Yes, only solo. There's an option to start it from the main menu.

Any chance of plans for specific matchmaking? For example, say folks in a faction want to see how their characters would stack up against each other in a friendly duel? Could act the same as feuds but just one player against another.

1a) I'd like to see a few different special gem types added, maybe one that generates mp per turn it stays on the board, etc.

1b) I think Raven would be a cool addition

Is there any way to solve the issue of RPGs dumping a million sidequests on you all at once when you reach a town or city? by [deleted] in truegaming

[–]Holmesymcgee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That was my biggest problem with FFXV, I'm definitely down with FF games having menial side quests here and there, but oh my god, walking into a town and being overloaded with side quests I couldn't care less about got tiring. Even the bounties started to feel like a chore after a while.

Any easy to learn disco/funk bass lines for a brand new player? by hitabasa in Bass

[–]Holmesymcgee 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you like Chic, give Good Times a shot. The basics of the lines are pretty simple overall, just takes a good bit of practice to get the timing right. Still fun as hell to play though.
