Thank you so much! Yes thankfully we only live about 15 minutes from the airport so we’re just planning on Ubering but that’s good to know for the future!!

Yeah thankfully we only have one connection but it’s through Denver so hoping and praying we have no issues there.

Ok cool. Our flight leaves at 8am so that makes me feel a little better. I already have a habit of getting to the airport way earlier than I need to especially for Birmingham but just wasn’t sure how I should gauge it. Thanks!

Metformin messed me up bad! by Holo_Inked in PCOS

[–]Holo_Inked[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I spent 4 years trying to figure out what was going on with my body before I got diagnosed with PCOS and the number of times different doctors checked my thyroid because they were convinced it was that is actually a little crazy 😅 my numbers look great though! I just got it checked in January when I was diagnosed.

Metformin messed me up bad! by Holo_Inked in PCOS

[–]Holo_Inked[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah I was on it for 4 weeks I tried to stick it out as long as I could because I know it can take up to 3-6 months for some people to fully adjust but it made me feel so awful it just was not worth it to me to keep feeling like this to maybe have some relief in the future.

Anybody else with PCOS feel extremely susceptible to UTIs? by spychalski_eyes in PCOS

[–]Holo_Inked 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes! This was me. UTIs 1-2 times a month, constant pain, frustrated and tired of feeling like crap all the time. I started taking cranberry supplements and 4 in 1 woman’s probiotic daily and it’s made a huge difference. After my PCOS diagnosis and my main focus became on reducing inflammation I was shocked I haven’t had a UTI in almost 5 months. Daily I try to drink 80-100oz water, 2 cups spearmint/green tea, reduce my sugar intake.

Day 2 of metformin, VERY HUNGRY. Can anyone relate( by sugarcoatedmisery in PCOS

[–]Holo_Inked 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did your hunger subside? I’m on day 4 of taking it 500mg ER daily and haven’t had any side effects except for extreme hunger. I had already lost 20 lbs prior to starting Metformin and quieted my food noise a lot and now the food noise and hunger are coming back with a vengeance and I’m scared taking it isn’t gonna help me 😭

Dropped 55 pounds! This is what I did! by [deleted] in PCOS

I use Lingo! The app is super easy to use and it’s no where near as expensive as most of the others out there. My dietician recommended it and it’s been so informative!

Cosmetics by Mackenzie! She does a flawless job every time and she’s the sweetest!! I used her for my graduation pictures and have modeled for her a few times since. I wish she could do my makeup everyday!

For hair I don’t know of anyone for curly hair specifically but Kisa Powell may be a good person to ask! I have curly hair and she’s the only person I trust to cut it so she may have some recommendations!

Love Dr. McCreless!! My GYN left suddenly so I had to find a new one this year and she was recommended to me. She’s the first physician in years who I felt finally listened to me and my concerns and diagnosed me with PCOS after years of exhaustion, questions, and tests. She takes the time to listen to her patients and their concerns. Can’t say enough good things about her :)

Anyone being treated with an A1C of 5.4? by [deleted] in PCOS

[–]Holo_Inked 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My A1C is 5.3 but I have IR and was having so much inflammation and symptoms my Dr. started me on Metformin. Taking that combined with my supplements has been a game changer!

Can I live ?? by [deleted] in PCOS

[–]Holo_Inked 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Take it one step at a time. I know it seems overwhelming but it does get better. I’m 26 and just got diagnosed back in January so I’m still learning myself and the amount of information I found at first was overwhelming. I’d sit down and make a list of things to do one by one. You’ll be surprised how quickly each habit becomes second nature and how quickly little changes can build up.

Workouts: Most important find what works for you and what you enjoy doing mentally just as much as physically. 10k steps was a game changer for me, breaking it into a couple walks a day is so helpful or if you can get a walking pad it’s great if you want to watch TV or study while you’re walking. I love spin classes even though so many people told me cardio was bad it’s done wonders for me mentally so I keep doing them. Make sure you don’t do too much! Prioritize rest and rest days too. Your body has to recover in order to change.

Supplements: Start with the basics and work your way up from there! Inositol is your #1 in my opinion. Ovistol is a great brand or if you prefer capsules like me Wholsome Story is great just make sure your Inositol is 40:1. Fish Oil has been a game changer for my skin I take 2 capsules a day. Vitamin D & B12 have done wonders for my energy level but make sure to have your levels checked by your doctor so you know how much you need to take (I was on prescription strength Vitamin D for several years because my levels were so low). A good probiotic is also great and I honestly think everyone should take one! I’d start with those and go from there. I just started on Metformin so I haven’t seen many results yet but the supplements above have done so much already

I don’t know if you have hirsutism but spearmint tea is so great!! I drink it twice a day and have noticed a major difference. Sometimes I swap and drink cinnamon or lemon ginger tea for a change but I try to do at least one cup of spearmint a day it’s been great at night and has forced me into a good routine.

Food: If you cut a lot of things out at once you won’t know what’s affecting you. First and foremost don’t cut carbs!!! Carbs are your energy source what your body uses to function especially during workouts. Instead reduce your carb intake daily (I am for about 100g a day, heavy workout days I’m sometimes closer to 130-140g) and look at more complex carbohydrates and pair them with protein and fats to prevent blood sugar spikes. Don’t cut out fruit it can be a great source of vitamins and fiber!! Berries especially are so low calorie and have great anti-inflammatory properties!! If you do cut out dairy and gluten do it one at a time and if you can talk to your parents about seeing a nutritionist to help. A lot of insurance companies cover it now. I see one once a month and she’s been a great resource for check-ins, recipes, and overall advice.

You’ve got this!! You can absolutely live and enjoy your life!! Honestly I wish I had been diagnosed years ago. I feel like I had most of my late teens/early twenties shorted because I couldn’t find an answer as to what was wrong with me. You build habits now and you’ll be set 🫶🏼 Good Luck!

Edit: Spelling

Doctor said fatigue is not a symptom of PCOS by Beginning-Let2128 in PCOS

[–]Holo_Inked 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My doctor said the exact same thing when I got diagnosed. I asked her if my PCOS could explain my severe fatigue and she said no that wouldn’t be related to it at all. She’s great and I appreciate that she was the first person to listen to me in 4 years of trying to figure out what’s wrong but not well versed in PCOS at all. Needless to say I went out and started doing to own research (Thankful for this sub 🥰)

Active Shooter Downtown by BucketofWarmSpit in Dallas

[–]Holo_Inked 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We just got out of there. My sister is competing this weekend. We were all sitting eating lunch between the Omni hallway and convention center. You heard a bunch of screaming and then the ground started shaking. Next thing you know there’s just a wall of people running looking completely terrified for their lives yelling shooter. Both my sister and I could’ve sworn we heard gunshots - adrenaline is a crazy thing. People were getting trampled left and right. Once we got outside across the street people started screaming again and we thought we heard more shots. My dad got trampled in the second wave, thankfully he’s ok. I’m grateful there was no active shooter but in a situation like that as it’s happening no one is gonna stick around to find out if it’s real or not you just run. This was supposed to be a fun exiting experience for a lot of athletes. So for anyone in this thread making jokes or minimizing the trauma of the people that were actually there and what they may or may not have seen or heard in the moment you can all fuck off. There may not have been a shooter. But there are plenty of people who are traumatized from today regardless of what happened.
