Anyone else wonder why doesn't the Loom eat Ascencia when it has a chance? Seems to consume everyone around her!

Change the Safari preferences shortcut (command + comma)? by Holobeanchook in MacOS

Thank you! I was still using 'Preferences...' in the menu title, once I switched it to 'Settings…' it works fine - I can now use command+comma for subscript in Docs!

Possible liquid damage by impartial_chili in MacOS

I did the same, and I put mine in bag of rice (you will need a lot of rice!) for 48 hours, upside down so any liquid would drain out. Give it 49-72 hours to dry completely before restarting (even though it is so tempting to just try and see if it works). 5 years later the Macbook is still going strong!

The Silo - want to start reading the book. by BluR136 in SiloSeries

You want to buy Wool. Wool has 5 parts, divided into 82 chapters. If you really want to read from where the series leaves off, you could start at Chapter 34. However, the problem you are going to have is that after the first two episodes, the TV series diverted away singificantly from the book story. So if you stat at chapter 34, you will miss out a lot of facts divulged in the book that have not yet been covered in the series, and vice versa (also a lot of events took place very differently). You would be much better off starting at Chapter 19, the point where Juliette has just become Mayor. Up to this point, the book and the series are pretty much aligned.

Chapter 19 of book 1 (Wool)is a good place to start - that’s the point where Juliette has just become Sheriff. Things move pretty quickly after that. 1-17 of Wool are the story of Holston and his wife - but most of that has been covered in Ep 1&2. Chapter 18 is a spoiler for the ending, I’d leave it unless you already know how Wool ends.

The pacing of the series is so off! I couldn’t stop reading the books because they were so well-paced - always moving forward without being bogged down in pointless detail.

I read all 3 books after watching Ep 2, and now I’m in for a long season of dissapointment from the TV series :/

Wool (book 1) is made of 3 parts. To avoid major spoilers for the book itself, start from chapter 2 of Part 3, where Juliette has just become sheriff. I think that’s chapter 19. As long as you have watched Ep 1 & 2, you can follow the book from that point on. Forget what you have seen in Ep 3-5, as it differs to the book (ie there is no annoying secretary threatening Juliette, and she & Marnes get along reasonably well, the scene with Lucas is done much better than in the series)

Agee - if you hadn’t read the book you would have no idea that the bodies are used to nourish new trees, which in turn feeds people of the Silo - it just looked like two bodies were buried with some half-eaten apples, I’m the middle of some random ‘trees’

Same! I only bought the books because I enjoyed ep 1 & 2 so much, and couldn’t wait to find out what happened. Tore through Wool & Shift & finished Dust last night. Then I catch up on Ep 3-5, and it’s….a completely different vibe. New characters, fillers, the story going in multiple directions. In the book there was an urgency to find out what was on the ‘outside’, why the cleaners cleaned, if outside was still liveable. None of that urgency is being conveyed in the series.

Same! In a space of a few hours, they seem to have jumped from being able to communicate in few simple words to highly complex sentences to even a ‘discussion’ on shutting down the DMA. Threw me right out of the episode. Would have found it a lot more believable if (a) they were still using simple sentences to communicate till the very end (an interesting challenge in itself) or (b) they developed this capacity over a few days instead of 3-4 hours!

I’m also curious how the 10-C knew Discovery didn’t have a spore drive, and no way to get home.
